Hello all,
Here's a stupid newbie question, I have a slip on comp that has 4 allen screws to hold it on to my Bushy HBAR. After mounting it the comp looks like it may be sitting slightly crooked and I am wondering if a bullet will catch the rim on its way out and damage my barrel or comp or will the pressure just push it thru the opening???

DO NOT USE IT. Do yourself a favor and discard it before you regret it. If you want a comp, send your upper to a smith or the manufacturer and ask for one to be installed.
I do not want to hear "but.....,", throw it out. End of thread-

Thanks for the words of caution but I would rather do it myself, so how would I go about making sure the comp is properly aligned??

Don't worry, it won't be on your barrel for long.  When the 25,000 psi gas hits the flats on that comp, it will send your comp about 50 yards downrange, leaving four nice scratches in your barrel.

You can prevent (or at least postpone) this by drilling a dimple for each set-screw and using red (High-Strength) Locktite on the set-screws.

Still, I would recommend having a gunsmith thread the barrel and "permanently" install a brake.  That will solve the problem in the best possible way.

OK now it's 2 against 1.... you win.
Well, I was going to dimple the barrel but it just didnt look right, I'm glad I waited for some help.  I will check into that threaded option, thanks.
I took it off and threw it in my spare parts box along w/ a few other "gems"
I have always owned guns but this is my 1st. AR-15. Is it me, or does there seems to be a tendency to hang all kinda crap off it?? My spare parts box costs as much as some guns I've owned.

The best thing you can do is ask for advice about a given part or accessory.  The replies will tell you if it's worth having or not.  The bigger problem is that you'll find that most of the items recommended the most tend to be somewhat (and in a few cases, VERY) expensive.  The reason for this is NOT because the people who have them are being snobbish, but because those people have ALL bought the cheaper stuff before, convinced that they were "saving money" and that those parts/accessories would be "good enough", and then later found that not to be the case.

Sure, an ACOG or Surefire M900 are EXPENSIVE, but you will get from them a level of performance and design that you just can't get with lesser products, and these products will LAST under tough use, where many others will fail, always at the worst possible moment.

None of us likes to see a fellow AR15.com member get screwed or have to replace something they paid good money for, and most folks here will steer you clear of that if you let them.
