The local indoor range has a 1903 Springfield hanging on the wall for sale.  It looks to be in immaculate condition.  The guy working the counter said the owner of the shop knows more about it, but he said they have paperwork from the gunsmith that assembled the rifle.  I'm going to contact the owner later to ask some more about it.  They have it priced at $950.

Any specific questions I should be asking?

Does $950 sound like a fair price if the rifle is in as good of condition as it looks?

I'm working on my own little collection of WWI & WWII rifles.  I have a 1917 Enfield, and a CMP Garand.  The 1903 is next on my list.

If not original, way too high.  A mixmaster is more in the range of $600-$700.  If you are going to shoot it much, I would get the 03A3

I believe it is an 03A3, I will find out next time I stop in.  Any specific questions I should be asking other than if its all original or a mixmaster?

The gunsmith who assembled it? Too much money unless he's somebody..

That in itself kills the deal.

I assume it's in military configuration, and not a sporter?

Not to put too fine a point on it, it's an assembly of parts. I would stay far away from this, especially at the price they're asking. There's no real collector value in someone's put-together.

If you just want an "example" and a shooter, make him and offer, but for far less than they are asking.

Thanks for the info.  I'm not looking for Collectors value really, this is really just for my own personal value, if you will.  I really just want a good shooter.  I will probably make an offer, but much lower than they are asking. Thanks!
