I've considered a NV scope for hog hunting and just thought of a possible negative. Get in your stand before dark and a hog shows in the daylight! You can't turn on the NV, correct? Hope he waits around until it's dark? Am I missing something? Thanks.

Jeff

Edited: I wasn't clear at first that it would be a rifle mounted scope

Just keep your daylight/pinhole lens on the NV device and take said hog.

Be aware while you can use the method with the day cover on, you will only be able to focus the NOD on the day cover. If the hog is out at 100 yards or so, you may have a hard time seeing him being out of focus.  Other option, get a Pinnacle autgated NOD!  Hope this helps.

Or you could take off the NVD and use your irons! Sometimes the simplest answer is the hardest to see.

If you go out before dark, run your day optics until you can't see through them effectively at your desired range, then swap devices to the NV.   Seems like a pretty simple concept to me, but maybe I am missing something.

Laser on rifle, NOD on head after dark, use irons/aimpoint/eotech until dark???

Ideal I agree, but unfortunately some states do not allow a laser device on the weapon WHILE HUNTING.  Not sure what the laws in FL are but this is how it is in my state

Here's what I do:

Simply zero your eotech during the day.  Shoot anything you see in the daylight hours withe the Eotech.  Then, if one shows up after dark, simply pop on the PVS-14 behind it., and you are ready...noting to re-zero and if you can't use the laser, this will suffice nicely.

I shoot alot of hogs right as the sun is going down.

Is there any change of impact when using the reticle and just the pinhole during the day?  Can you sight your scope in this way during the daytime (with pinhole) and have it shoot to the same point at night without the cover?
