I have a couple of questions on starting the FFL application process. In regards to location, what do you do for store hours if your doing the Home based FFL? Do you have to start the process with your Town Zoning or does the assigned Agent?
If its decided that we will go the store front route, do you have to acquire rental property first before you fill out the application? Depending on the length of time that it takes for the application to get approved and for the zoning situation, your basically paying a lease on property that has nothing in it and not bringing in any money to pay for it. Just curious on the process and the best way to do it. |

Store Hours @ home will vary by your Agent. I put 8a-8p 7days on mine even though I work a full time Job, but I will answer the phone those hours to establish potential business. This may change as I get my interview tomorrow, but on the phone agent said will prob work. I heard some guys agents had them put 9-5 on sat sun only and As far as store front, your more than likely going to have to get a lease on the property, get it zoned and then send in your app. EVERY city has differnt zoning policies so check with your city and learn the zoning before you lease. It took me from January to august to get my zoning squared away. I will list my steps in OKLAHOMA so you can kinda get a idea and start your research. 1. State Tax permit (file monlthy sales even though I'm not operating, almost lost my tax permit bc city was slow approving permit) 2. City business permit (needed tax permit before I get this) 3. Zoning (I live really close to a school) This was filed with biz permit, but took them almost 6 months to get approved 4. FFL APP- All the steps on app Do you own your home? (You will need a letter of auth from deed owner) 5. File Trade name with State Secretary- Agent told me to do this over the phone and print out confirmation. Best of luck to ya! |

Thanks for the info. I will gather some info on this. I own a Townhouse (condo) that I wont be able to run the business out of. Im also a fireman, so my shift is different everyweek. Normal store hours dont work for me.
What happens if you get the lease on retail space, and the zoning falls through or the application doestn get approved. Your out all that money for nothing? Very helpful info though. |
