A few weeks back I was selling my paraclete Rav when someone offered to trade me a pistol for it. I told him (a member of this board) the only pistol I was interested in was a NIB 2002 or newer USP Tactical .45 Variant 1. We agreed to him including $100 and making the trade. I overnighted the FFL on a wednesday and the gun was overnighted back to me to be there Friday because I had national guard annual training (2 weeks) starting that day.

So that friday my gun dealer called me to let me know the gun was in and I shipped the vest. I picked up the gun on my way to drill. Immediately upon getting there the bag it came in looked dirty and the gun was a 99 (KK) not a 2002 or later. My dealer told me it looked new so I gave the guy I made a trade with a call and he apologized saying he thought KK meant 2002. Basically, I said as long as it's new I won't worry about it too much. Upon getting to my national guard armory I showed a few guys my new HK and they all told me that it had been used. Inside the pistol there was fairly significant wear, there was wear on the hammer, wear on the rails from a light being attached, and wear on the thin metal rail behind the barrel. Dirt was in the rear of the pistol grip and there was also carbon on the inside, enough to make the tip of my finger completely black.

When I got back from Annual Training I emailed the guy I made the trade with telling him this. He claimed HK test fires them from the factory and that they aren't cleaned afterwards and that it's normal to have carbon in the pistol. He also claimed that the only other person who had owned this pistol was the gunshop and that "like a car" if it hadn't left the gunshop it was still considered new. The funny part was he claimed he builds HK's when he explained all this which told me he was full of it reguarding not knowing the date codes.

My question is this...when you received your "New" HK did it have noticeable wear and was there enough carbon on the inside to turn your finger black from running your finger thru it?
Also is every HK supposed to come with the expended shells from the factory test firing because mine didn't.

Go to HKPRO.com and ask around.  I wish I could help more.

My HK USP was not dirty and I bought it new from a shop.  I'm sure its used.  On the other hand, I'd be quite surprised if it is shot out or otherwise not up to par.  Shoot it and see how she runs.

If you truely want a new gun, try to get the vest back.

No - they do not come worn or dirty. Sounds as if it was the shop gun and perhaps they used it a bit - a '99 would be really old stock to have money tied up in for a non-collector / rare item. It probably should have been listed as a demo  - sorry to say that is one of the aspects of buying through inet.

Remember most shops go a long way to make the weapons on the floor look good. So a lot will cleaned at the shop a little. On that note it shouldnt be dirty or worn either. See how it shoots. Does the barrel oring look good? Do you get any failures to fully extract (mine did when it was really new for about 500 rounds and then stopped.) Just figure out if it is worth keeping
