| Hey guys, I've recently acquired a Steyr M95 carbine. I have been researching the rifle online, and I have read many posts indicating that an ammo clip is required to properly load the magazine and fire the rifle. Is this true? Moreover, where can one find some "cheaper" ammo online. My LGS doesn't carry ammo for it. Thanks for the help. |

| Oh I see. Thanks for the info and help guys. The only surplus gun I dealt with so far were Mosins. This Steyr was a complete different ball game, but I love the history and the mechanic of it. Now, time for me to locate some clips and ammo, so I can test out the recoil I've been reading so much about. Again, thanks for the help. |

For the IMR 3031 I started with the load listed in "Cartridges of the World" backed off a couple grains and then dialied in until it shot point of aim with the iron sights on my rifles (I've got two of them and the Nazi and Austrian milsurp shoots way high in both of them). For IMR 4895 I started with a starting level load for 8x57 Mauser backed off by a few grains and worked up the same way. I don't recommend the latter method -- it is somewhat dangerous. However, I was out of IMR 3031 at the time and nobody seemed to be getting any in (it was during one of the runs on reloading supplies). Oh, I also reload the milsurp brass even though it is Berdan primed. Grafs and a few others have the Tulammo large rifle Berdan primers now. I use the RCBS Berdan De-Priming tool which works O.K. I bought an extra depriming pin/collet for my Lee die set for 8x56R that I snapped the Boxer deprime pin off of and I use that when resizing the milsurp Berdan brass. It is cheaper in some cases to load ammo using all new components as compared to buying boxed loaded ammo. |

A friend and I just got a few of these Steyr M95s. We cleaned them up and ordered some clips from liberty tree and numrich. Half of them had the eagle and swastika stamp. We finally shot them yesterday, along with a mosin m44. The ammo was Prvi for the steyr and Bulgarian for the mosin. Recoil was similar, but the m44 had a much better trigger and was shooting smaller groups. I like the steyr and for $99 ain't a bad deal. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
