little stowaway design from a small nicholson file.  6.5" overall and hollow ground.  slim and sharp as a razor.  a bit of kydex should work nicely for a sheath/blade cover.

thanks, fellas.  so, would they be worth doing a small batch?  i have a metric shit-ton of these small files that my son gave me.  where he works, they just toss buckets of them each month once they have seen just a bit of use.  i guess they get a new batch each month.  i won't complain.  i love working with files on occasion.

If the price is right, sure. I'd be down for one.

i always like feedback on new designs.  something i might think is great and wonderful might go over like a fart in a car.  i do some very different designs, so i never know just how folks will react.  i think i will do a small run of these with some various blade grinds to give some variety.  i like working with files when i know they are good steel.  i try to stick with nicholson files, they have never let me down.

thanks, gentlemen.  as far as HT, i go ahead and anneal the file from the start and then after the profile and rough blade grind, i HT as if it were 1095 or similar.  it works well.  i have had one file years ago that didn't harden using my oil quench.  i used a brine quench and it hardened right that time.  it was a brand i was not familiar with.  all the nicholson files i have used must be chemically similar to 1095, they take a great edge after i HT and temper them.  i try to stick with nicholson for all my file knives now.  i have heard of some makers just drawing the steel back a bit softer than factory and leaving it at that.  i have always been uncomfortable with that method.

so, what are you thinking of asking for them? an notch on the top edge towards the tip  and it might make an interesting large bird knife. Post a price will you?

Looks good! I'd definitely be interested in one too.

Looks nice. I would prefer a slight depression for my thumb on the top but all in all it looks great.

If the price is right I'd be interested in one

thanks fellas, i just might make a few with a little notch or cutaway along the spine.  that is a good idea.  i have 10 files already annealed and ready to profile.   i am not sure i am supposed to post prices and sales info on the main forum, so just shoot me a PM or email and i will fill you in on the details.  i am going to keep the price affordable, though.

From what I've seen, Nicholson files are indeed 1095.

here are the first few profiled blanks or the next run.  looks like i may have to two batches if i can source more files.

yep, files everywhere.  i am tripping over files.  i am actually doing a lot bigger batch than i originally thought.  they are coming along, though.  the first of the orders are going out tomorrow.  here are some shots of the furious activity around the old knife farm.

getting close to wrapping up all the small Quill knives.  this one is an XL version that is 8.5" long, about 2" longer than the standard.  just have to finish sharpening and do a final buff on the flats.  not sure what kind of sheath to do for this one.

decided to give the XL an acid etched finish.  still not sure about the handle or if i even want to give it one.
