We suggest the following. Caliber: 5.56mmx45NATO. (.223 Remington) Pressure spec: MIL <58700 Psi “Case mouth” = <62000 Psi chamber = CIP International <4300bar/62350psi Barrel length: 20” (For 16” barrel reduce velocities by 5 to 6% ca 150 Fps) Powder: Ramshot – TAC. Bullet weight: 55 grain FMJ (M-193). Start load: 24.7grains (2925 – 3025 Ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 27.4 grains (3300 – 3400 Ft/p/sec). <62000 Psi Bullet weight: 62 grain FMJ (M-855). Start load: 23.2 grains (2850 – 2950 Ft/p/sec) Maximum load: 26.0 grains (3100 – 3200 Ft/p/sec). <62000 Psi NOTES: It’ important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend. 1. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM “START” LOAD and develop loads in 2% increments towards the MAXIMUM load. 2. If at all possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data. One thing to consider:
When the factory loads ammo to 5.56 pressures, they only need the brass to last through one firing. It's my experience that .223 brass lasts quite a bit longer when you load mild/mid level pressures. I'd rather have my brass last 6 firings than squeeze out a couple hundred extra FPS out of the ammo. Your results may vary. |

COMPANY WEBSITES/PRODUCTS: www.ramshot.com Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I worked up a load with 25.9 gr of TAC. I got 3,100 fps out of a 20" barrel with a 1/7 twist. Check http://accurateshooter.net/Downloads/sierra223ar.pdf. I would not dare to try more than 26.3 gr of TAC. Ramshot's max of 27.4 gr at 3,300 to 3,400 fps is way over SAAMI specs for .223 and also hotter than M193. That is some scary load. |

Too hot to be used in reused cases. |

I bought a bunch of Ramshot X-Terminator a year or two ago when it was on sale for $10.99lb from Midway.
Worked up a light plinking load for mixed cases thats easy on the brass and cycles my AR with no problems. Cases-Win, Rem, LC Primer-CCI #41 Powder-23.5grns Xterminator Hornady 55gr. FMJBT I get< 2'' at 100yds with tis load. This works in my rifle, work up in yours. YMMV |

Ramshot powder has published very hot load data before, I've fired some reloads in my .40 using their data with Enforcer powder. I started with the low charge and was amazed at the velocities the lowest charge made. (1330 fps 155gr XTP, 5 inch fully-supported barrel) and the data showed even "hotter" loads. Needless to say, I didn't go any hotter.
So as for the 5.56 data, I'd try it...first remember nothing is free, (more speed = more pressure in the 5.56) and just watch for pressure signs and use common sense. ( if you need more speed... then you need a different caliber, 22-250, 220 swift) |

THANK YOU, STJ.....Am not looking to squeeze the last fps of out of my loads....just wanna be in the ballpark re 5.56mm pressure...I am going to use the start loads given re TAC for 60gr Nosler Partition and 65 gr Sierra Gamekings.... THANKS TO ALL.. Pete If you're not interested in getting the most speed from the ammo, why are you chasing high pressures that you can't measure? Right off the bat you are using different components and you have no idea how they will affect the pressure. A fast miss is still a miss, and an inoperative gun damaged by hot ammunition is worthless. An AR doesn't make a good club, and it's a piss poor spear with a bayonet attached. I have a couple of questions - - Do you know the nominal SAAMI pressure for .223 Remington and the MIL-C spec pressure for US 5.56X45 ammunition? - Do you know the feature used in rifles chambered for 5.56X45 rifles for accomodating the higher pressure? |

Good info!! THANKS I am beginning to load 223 and have TAC and X-terminator. What load would be recommended for 55 grain? Minimum is where I will start annd shooting a 16 " barrell http://www.ramshot.com/powders/ My 16 inch 1-9 twist Colt loves 25.5gr XT with 52gr Nosler CC and 25gr XT 55gr Vmax/Nosler BT. Mine does very well with Tac, but with heavier bullets62gr and up.That said, you need to start low and work up your own loads looking for signs of pressure and accuracy. 25.5gr XT 52gr Nosler CC at 100 yards, 5 rounds. Those squares are 1/2 inch.
