Whats everyones opinions on this trimmer? Looks like you can buy 3 way cutter heads for $10 for each caliber. $105 for trimmer unit and $10 per head sounds very reasonable if it trims, chamfer and deburs at once. I just dont see it talked about much. Always Wilson for lathe and of course Giraud. Thoughts?

Comes with everything you really 'need' to do a LOT of different types of bullets. Comes with a pack of different pilots and shellholders. Once locked down you will get the same length each and every time. I mouted mine on a @12" x 12" x 1" thick piece of oak. (got little places on board to hold pilots and shellholders) Makes for a good 'portable' little workarea to trim brass on. I can sit on the couch watching TV while trimming brass in my lap - Shavings pretty much stay close to trimmer and no mess gets anywhere except on the board. Shavings get tossed in brass recycle milkjug... I did (after a few years without it) eventually get one of the 3-way cutters and it is 'nice' to have (not 'needed' IMO). They usually come preadjusted from factory but can be fine tuned concerning the inside bevel and outside chamfer. You can set those to do very little if you wish... I recently debated (after reading posts here) about trimming a pile of new Starline pistol brass I bought. (some guys want it all the SAME) I knew it would not have been 'hard' to do and that I could have done it while watching the TV but it still WOULD have took a while with this trimmer. These trimmers are easy to use, VERY accurate, but SLOW. I got to measuring my new Starline brass and found that it was all (many random samples) within .001 or less of the same in length. I zeroed the tool on one case and then started checking the others for the 'difference'. Never found ANY in multiple seaches through a fairly large lot of brass that were more than .001 off one way or the other. Starline impressed me in a big way. |

I have one also and use it (and 3-way cutters) for .223 and .308. I've found it to be very accurate as well, but if you're doing a lot of brass at once, the hand crank gets old fast. I adapted mine for use with a drill (threaded adapter in place of the crank handle) and that works marvelously. The 3-way cutter makes life very easy and it is well worth the money. My hands can't stand chamfering and deburring manually.
If you have a source for $10 3-way cutters, share the wealth :). I too paid about $50 for each 3-way cutter. |
