Can anyone school me on the RCBS X-Dies? I heard they stop cases from growing, but find this hard to wrap my mind around. I thouhgt cases grow both when fired and when resized.
How does this die work? |

According to their catalog, it's all about the shape of the mandrel has and how it effects the neck as it drawn through. You still have to trim your brass.
Just polish your expander bead (part of the mandrel) using a drimmel to a high shine. Not enough to remove a lot of material, just shine. Also for precision stuff I run a nylon bore brush through the neck with a little case lube on it before using the sizing die. It will remove any loose dirt that the tumbler didn't get and lubricate just the inside of the neck. Most everyone trims their cases after sizing anyway. I think it really isn't worth buying one. |
| I have a couple of sets of X-Dies –– to me, they certainly are worth it. Yes, you do have to trim your brass.. but only once for the life of the case. The result is increased case life, and quicker reloading (no need to trim any more)... I have these in .308 Win. and .300 Wby. |
