Guys I just acquired a RCBS small base die set and am having promlems with taking a clean case no dents but once fired and running it through the sizer and coming out with small dents around the shoulder and sometimes in the body some are multiple dents.  I have cleaned the die. Made sure there is not to much lube. Checked a different headstamp. Still happens any ideas?

Use a better lube; Imperial.

Run the neck and shoulder dry into the sizer.  Only lube the case body, shoulder to case head, and the inside of the neck.  Make sure you are using a good sizing lubricant like RCBS Case Lube-2. [ETA] or Imperial.

Those are surely hydraulic dents from too much lube.  Back off on the lube, and they'll go away.

Most bottleneck rifle dies have a small vent hole at the shoulder; make sure it isn't plugged.

What kind of lube are you using, and how are you applying it?

The only time I've had hydraulic dents is when using a lube pad.  That's one of the reasons I stopped fooling with one.

Like the pros have said, hydraulic dents. Too much lube. There is nothing wrong with the die.

I use FA or Dillon spray lube, no dents.

So question that vent hole is covered by the press? Has anyone drilled more holes?

Do not drill that die. The vent hole is designed to breath in that way. Move to a high quality lube, that's it nothing more nothing less. Imperial is the stuff of the pros. If you can't find that then get some hornady spray lube. I have the same set you have and I have found that if I go crazy over lubing I will get hydraulic dents. Too, my vent is also covered. I called RCBS on this and they said it is fine to have covered as the case will force it to breath.

Don't go crazy with spray lube –– a little goes a long way.

Put your brass in a plastic grocery bag.  Give it a couple of sprays, then knead the whole bag to give all the pieces a light, even coating (no big, soppy drops).  Give the alcohol in Dillon spray lube a couple of minutes to evaporate and the lanolin that's left is enough for sizing.  You can then throw away or put the bag in the recycle bin.

You guys are completely correctI used a Lee FL die before and never had a problem putting the brass in the loading block and just spraying four sides with the lyman lube never had an issue. I tried some mor brass but just putting my finger lightly and I mean lightly on my lube pad and I could lube like 5 cases with that little bit and run them through the RCBS SB die and the dents no longer appeared.
