I picked up a pound of RL-15 at the gunshow today because they had it.

I don't have a clue what to do with it for my .223.

Any experience with RL-15?

Looking at the charts it seems not suited for 55 grains.  Anybody use it for 62 grains?

Will CCI 400s work with it?

Should I forget about it for .223 and save it for my .308?

Any advice?

CCi 400s work good, they gave me the best groups in my AR with RE-15, umm itd good for the 52 grainers and 69grain and above. IT really shines for bullets 69 grain and above.

Re-15 is great in 223.

My favorite load with it is AeroE's  accuracy load,

Win case, 27.0 grs Re-15, Sierra 52 gr BTHP, Rem 7 1/2.

Unlike Varget, it will throw thru a powder measure, as it is cut shorter than Varget.

Any primer suitable for 223 will work just fine.

Have you checked the on line data?

Great powder for 69 and especially 77 gr.

I would have no problems using my RL15 stash for .223, but it fuels my favorite load for my .22-250.

Reloder 15 is a great gunpowder for .223 Remington.

It's on the slow end of optimum burning speed for bullets around 55 grains in weight, but that doesn't mean it won't work.  The case will be full of gunpowder.

For example, I shoot lots of 52 grain MK's with 27.0 grains of RL-15.  The gunpowder will fill into the bottom of the case neck in a Winchester case.  I've used up to 27.4 grains but this fills the case to top of the case mouth and it's hard to keep from spilling gunpowder when handling the case.  26.8 grains is too small and doesn't swell the case mouth enough to seal the chamber well.  This load produces over 3200 fps, so I always have to ask, "How fast does it need to go"?; the speed is close enough to those possible with slightly faster gunpowders.

So, my recommendation is to use RL-15 for bullets from 52 to 80 grains weight in .223 Remington.

RL-15 is a great powder for heavier bullets in 223.  It's my first choice when I can find it.

It's also my first choice for 300 Savage, 308 Winchester and 303 British.

For stumbling around at a gun show and buying some powder you didn't know much about - YOU STRUCK GOLD. Now go get a lottery ticket before the spell wears off!

My SPR likes 25.8 grains RL15 behind a 60 grain Vmax.  I seldom use it though, as 26 grains of TAC is only slightly less accurate and meters much better.

The local shop has 5 5-lb kegs of Re-15 the other day.  It was all I could do to keep from doing the little happy dance in front of the counter.

Around 24.5 grains with any of your 68-69 grain OTM bullets makes for a nice shooting round.
