I'm new to 9mm uppers and I have quick question or two, I got a 9mm upper in a trade and it was supposed to be a RRA, but there are no marking on the upper, mag well or bbl.  Does/has RRA always marked their 9mm uppers with their logo, initials or T-marks?  How does one identify the maker of an upper?  Also, the shell deflector is loose, it wobbles back and forth from the receiver, is that normal?

Thx for the help.

I can not answer to the 9mm questions. I can tell you that RRA uppers have Their emblem on the top of the upper if it is a flat top.

RRA marks the uppers they sell as RRA. I have an upper that was made by RRA (or, by the same shop that makes them for RRA) but sold by another company and it does NOT have the RRA markings. Is it really a RRA upper? Well, the barrel on this upper has the RRA markings and the upper is an exact twin to my other RRA upper so ...either is RRA or made by the same folks that make RRA. But, as for your question of identifying who is the maker, that isn't so easy. Some are marked, many are not. The RRA barrels are easier. Look at the barrel, down close to the barrel nut, and it will have some small numbers stamped on it. These are RRA codes that tell you about the upper.

As for the shell deflector, it actually a gas deflector. My shells get tossed out at about 2:00 O'clock so they never get close to that thing. Its just a piece of plastic that goes on the pin that holds on the dust cover.

Thx Forever4,   I called RRA and they confirmed that their early 9mm uppers had no RRA markings.   What threw me was there is no forging mark and zero marking on the BBLs, but the RRA CSR said that's not uncommon for their early stuff.   He also stated with that being the case, there is no way to confirm it's an RRA upper, so I guess I just need to take the seller's word for it.
