Awesome find, for that price you stole it I have a BNZ 41 gun and it is one of the most prized K98's I own. I'd keep it, clean up that stock, and shoot the hell out of it, they are really fun guns, and you'll become hooked, I have 5 K98s now
EDIT: damn lucky find on those stamps on the but too, most are sanded off. |

Well, I am definitely leaning towards getting rid of it. I want to get a nice k98 example for my collection, but I definitely think this R/C isn't it. I also have quite a few firearms in my collection already, and a lot of firearms that are still on my 'to-get' list. The more i think about it, the more I think that there isn't room for this rifle because it really doesn't 'fit' in my collection, and I could uses it to help acquire a rifle that would fit a lot better.
Oh, and on the topic of becoming 'addicted' to a certain type of firearm, me and my 8 M39's can certainly attest to that! ETA: a quick GB completed auctions search shows these things going from anywhere in between $300 and $400 at online auction, so It seems like i did get a pretty decent deal on this thing! |
| I'm not a fan of the RC 98's. Yours does look better than most. I would clean it up and list it on Gunbroker. Lots of pics, show off the dirty birds. You may be happy with the selling price. I've seen people pay well over $350 for these, I do not understand why. The Yugo capture Mod98 is usually a much nicer rifle, many retain matching parts with no force matching the Russians did. |
| You paid a very good price for it and it looks pretty good. You would be surprised at how nice it will clean up if you put a little work into it. How is the barrel? Mine was in about the same condition and after refinishing the stock and shooting it (my own handloads) it is one rifle I will never sell. |

Well I can't get the oversized photos to come up, but I gather you have a bnz 42 rifle in a 39/40 Oberndorff stock. What is the ser nr and letter below it? What are the proof marks on the right side of the rec? Sarge looks like a 1365 "d" ser. # That's right. eta: and there aren't any markings on the right side of the reciever. |

Wish I could see the photos, but no luck even after I let my computer set and work on them for 20 min.
No markings of any kind on the right side of the rec is odd! There should be at least one mfgrs proof mark. Some one previously said something about it being an SS contrakt - NOT so! Those did not come into being till 43 and they do not have a letter on the ser nr. Sarge |
