I'm trying to get some information on radio systems. I want 2-4 radios, that are pretty reliable, have good signal radius, and have the capability to accept voice activated headsets, and ideally use something like the NACRE QuietPro with them. I'm aware it won't be cheap, but I'm just trying to get an idea so I can start buying up a few. I like using radios on the range for easy communications. Overkill? Maybe, but who cares. I've been reading about the Motorola XTS 3000 as a possible option.
Any recommendations or advice? Thanks! RC1919 |

I've had good luck with the Motorola CP200 radios. They offer them in UHF and VHF. I have my VHF radios programmed with marine band VHF freqs as well as the MURS channels (which are free to use without license). UHF requires a license to operate legally. UHF is better if you're not talking line of sight. VHF is fine without visible obstructions. I can buy the radios locally, used, for about $75 with a battery. I have them connected to a Peltor PTT and Peltor Swattac2 headset with boom mic. Works good in our racing endeavors as well. http://www.speedcraving.com/keith/guns/armor/comms.jpg Where are you finding them for that price? and does that come with programming? |

Keep in mind that use of the Marine band on land isnt legal and enforced if there are complaints so avoid use unless you have to. |

ETA: I'm very overwhelmed by radios but would like a pair for SHTF for me and the wife. Something PTT that can be mated to Sordins or Peltors |

The local BearCom has them for cheap. I've also bought them off Ebay in that range in the past. |

While I originally bought them for SHTF, in which case no one is going to be enforcing it, I currently use them primarily with my boat racing endeavors. |
