I have a rail that is black. I want to anodize it FDE and anodize my billet upper and lower to match (as closely as possible) .

The rail is one of the slide on rails. It isn't in 2 pieces, its a solid piece, 11.5 inches.

Is it still going to be possible to strip the old anodizing to re-anodize the part in FDE? My concern is the blasting that needs to occur on the inside of the rail to strip the black anodizing so it may be re-done in FDE.

Thank you for any answers here.

I thought stripping anodizing was electrochemical, not mechanical. I've seen black parts stripped and redone and you couldn't tell, without a micrometer.

Yeah, they're not blasted, it's removed electrochemically.

The problem on color matching is that the rail and the receivers are probably different alloys, which finish differently.  Would be best to talk to US Anodizing about it but last I knew the website said they were not taking any new custom work until he gets caught up.

They use an acid dip.  It is not electrical.  If your anodizer is careful you won't lose much aluminum.  Make sure they mask any threaded holes that are 10-32 or smaller.

After the the parts have been stripped you'll want to reblast everything to the same media so everything matches.

Keep in mind that a forged 7075 lower may have a different color than a 6061 billet material.

You may be better off with a high tech spray FDE finish.  I don't have any useful experience with spray finishes.  I'm sure someone will chime in.

Stripping anodize isn't done by sand blasting. I don't know the proper term for the process. Its more of a chemical, etroplating process I think. You probably will need to polish the stripped finish though to make it look nice again

ETA:  Better explanations above.
