My Sig P220 will not run with my Obsidian 45 in its long configuration. I’ve been working on a few recently acquired First and Second World War 1911s which bit me with the 1911 bug, so I think it’s time to pick up a [modern] threaded .45 1911. This one I don’t want to tinker with, I want it to be ready to go out of the box. I also don’t want any MIM - I have no hate on MM but I don’t want it on my 1911s - yes, this is nostalgia. Black/blued finish to match the Obsidian. 70 series, and no need for left handed/ambi controls. Basically a traditional, proper threaded 1911. I’ll pay for quality, but if there’s value out there I’m certainly happy to save $$$.
What fits this bill? Edit - the DW Wraith was stunningly sexy |

Tough question. Not sure you're going to find anything off the shelf. I had a smith put a Storm Lake barrel into a Dan Wesson. Also have an Alchemy Custom Springer with a threaded barrel. If I remember right the DW was around 350 for the barrel and install. The ACW was... more.
They both run great with my Osprey45. Have a Fly 45 on order. Don't expect different there. My P220 runs perfectly with my Osprey and my TLX without booster. Are you due for a new recoil spring? Maybe a new booster spring? |

Keep an eye out for a suppressor ready Remington R1 enhanced. Really nice pistols, very reliable and accurate with a can. We scored one for $700 not too long ago, probably the best value I've found in a 1911.

View Quote A few years ago I had a thread here about it. I tried everything - a half dozen recoil spring weights, a dozen different loads (I reload)..nothing would work to get it to run reliably through even a 10rd mag. Someone had posted in that thread with a similar experience and said the only way they found to get theirs to run with the same setup of an Obsidian .45 long was filing the barrel hood. I stopped there at permanent mods. Too many other guns and possibilities out there. Plus it runs fine in short configuration, it’s just loud. Long is so pleasant, hence this thread. |

But I’ve seen a lot of negative threads and comments regarding reliability. How many rounds have you ran through yours? |

I just bought a kimber 9mm 1911 that was suppressor ready for like $900 - not bad. I mean as a lower cost gun just capable of using a suppressor.
The most accurate 1911 I own is a 9mm kimber stainless Gold Match that I fitted the frame on and fit an oversize EGW bushing to and did trigger work, installed a stan chen mag well, blended the beavertail/safety/frame to make the gun ergonomic, and swapped the sights to adjustable night sights. That gun is practically lapped together- the slide is almost sluggish to operate its so relatively tight- the bushing has maybe .001" total tolerance between both fits. When the frame was fit the slide sat a few thousandths lower and the barrel really got close tolerance at the lower lugs to the slide stop pin. My first two rounds after getting my sights zeroed at closer distance were in 1" at 50 yards offhand. That gun is fun to shoot - capable of clearing a Bianchi rack at 50 yards without missing if you can hold it together. Before I blended the beavertail/frame and thumbsafety pair, that gun wasn't quite comfortable to shoot because the safety protrusion at the beavertail area would basically hammer my firing hand thumb knuckle so that was like a metal on bone impact caused by the parts not really being well designed to work together. In retrospect I probably should have replaced that stuff with Ed Brown before doing the work. |

I have both the Remington in .45 and a kimber in 9mm that run flawlessly with octane .45 and ghost. But my P220 also runs fine with the same cans.
The Remington is really nice, I could do with out the Remington engraved on the side, but pistol is accurate, reliable, and appear to be of very good quality for the price. The 9mm limber is an absolute joy to shoot. Dead nuts accurate and reliable. |

I picked up a commander length sig tacops. It functions well with my obsidian and is pretty accurate.

If you can locate a Dan Wesson Discretion I bet it will meet your needs. Mine is 9mm and runs a Griffin Revo 45 just fine.

It didn't start having hiccups until I let it get so filthy the slide had to be braced against a bench while shoving down on the grip to break it free and wouldn't go into battery on an empty chamber if eased down. |

Often they come with the ambi safety that is less carry friendly. |
