I need a “good” scope mount which would mount to the side of a Pre ranch receiver, sits low enough but still clears the rear iron sight, and would maintain the zero if removed. I’m not really interested in the Ultimak rail, I plan on a using a small 4x scope.
Anything like this exists? |

You have two issues with which to deal: 1) A scope mount high enough to allow the user to see the iron sights under it is going to require a removable cheek riser. 2) An entire mount is tough to make so it returns to zero. Scope and rings? OK if the mount is rock solid, and the rings are GTG. The entire mount? Don't know of one for the Mini. Not saying one doesn't exist, just not aware of one. |

That would eliminate the need of a cheek riser. 2) Scope or rings?....either one or the other would be nice. |

Sorry, as mentioned above, if the scope and mount assembly is low enough to use without a cheek riser, it is also low enough to interfere with spent case ejection. That's why you never see such a low mount, only high ones. These are usually "see-under" (when using iron sights) type mounts. I fiddled briefly with this type of mount, both with the mini-14, and an M1A. Eventually I went with the Ultimak Scout rail, and a Burris 3-7x pistol scope. Couldn't be happier. YMMV. |

so you dont have scope mounts on the receiver right? This is the only one i know of thats worth a piss: http://checkout.safariland.com/b-square/ruger_rifles.html
If you do have scope mounts, then Warne QD rings are the way to go. A Wilson combat 1911 buffer on the guide rod between the spring and receiver can change the direction of the casing more horizontally, as well as soften the banging of the op rod, and maybe keep them in your zip code. |

No offense, but there are many different makes of mini-14 scope mounts similar to the two linked above, and many of them much less expensive, and also of the same basic design. I found the similar ones I tried to be unsat (for me) on account of the scope being mounted too high to naturally use except with the use of a detachable cheek riser. Detachable because in order to use the iron sights, the cheek riser has to go. Lots of fiddlin' around that I don't want to bother with, now that I've found a MUCH better system.
BTW, did I mention that the Ultimak Scout rail serves to stiffen the barrel, thus enhancing accuracy? As far as rings go, I have been completely satisfied with Leupold QRW rings. I have found them to be the best, least expensive, high-quality rings I've bought. They will return to zero, if you install them properly in the first place, and will not self-dis-assemble when dismounted, as will some other rings. Best bang for the buck, IMHO. There are better rings, and lighter rings, but not unless you are willing to pay maybe 3X the price or more. And the difference will be small. |

Ohhh! I didnt know GG&G made one. Their stuff works well too. but to add.. If i had the old model, i would go with the Ultimak rail. |
| If you use a long eye relief scope in a "scout" position, you might consider an Ultimak rail |

That looks to be a nice piece of kit and nice and clean lines. Didn't even know they made one. Sure beats some of the other junker import side mounts. |

I personally have the Ultimak and a 30mm Ultradot on mine. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-eUVntXdV6-w/UMlcQtLRroI/AAAAAAAAAgI/1HtL4Yjcz0s/w1014-h259-no/mini_lores.jpg Having tried all the others, I say go Ultimak or don't bother. YMMV. |
