Finally picked up my GSG 5 Carbine last week and got it to the range Sunday. This firearm shoots REALLY well at 15 yards (as far as I could shoot indoors). I ordered a high mount, so after I mount a sight, I could still use the factory sights. At first, I was convinced I wanted to put a reflex on, but now, I see most of the people seem to put red dots on theirs. I would like to know what persuades the other GSG owners as you choose which route to go.

So, I ask you, what sight did you put on your GSG and why?

I should point out too, that I would like to stay below $100.

Although the reflex technically IS a red-dot sight, I'm assuming you're referring to the aimpoint clones and such when you use the term.

I personally went with the reflex because it seems to give the quickest target acquisition as there is no tube to try and focus through. In addition, the reflex is the most compact. lightest weight option. I also think its the easiest to fire accurately with two eyes open.

Finally, my GSG is a "toy" really and the head-up-display style of the reflex sight kind of has the best "gee-whiz" fun factor.

I use both and keep both eyes open with both. I think it's more a matter of what you like the looks of better. Equal quality either way - pretty good. I'm happy with either and so are my customers apparently - I've had zero complaints on either one.

I bought 1 of each....a reflex, a red dot and a 4X32 lighted reticle.  Swap em whenever you want.

one sight does not do it all.

so in the end  you will want both.

for close range ie indoors i use the reflex more or a red dot laser.

for any scope type profiled sight, i use it more when
i'm further away and shooting and when i shoot slower.

if you are shooting indoors i would recommend a reflex.

And how accurate are they after you swap?

I put a good qaulity mount, not a airsoft one either....traded for it, so I am not out cash..I then mounted an extra OKO red dot reflex sight. I love the setup. I am just not wanting/needing magnification for this rifle....it is a fast fun plinker for me.

I had an Ultradot 4dot scope  type reddot sight I had mounted on my S&W 686 and an NC Reflex laying in the closet for a couple years and tried them out on my new GSG5PK toy.  I found the Ultradot to be a more accurate and stable sight than the NC Reflex.  However, the Reflex sight is much lighter.  Target acquisition is about the same for me as they both do great shooting B-pins.  Once zero'd...switching back and forth is a piece of cake because they both held their zero's.
I think you can pick up a NC Reflex for around $50-75 and the Ultradot around $175 or so.

PS:  I've also played around with these sights on my BM AR15 with Spikes 22lr upper and had a blase with them outside as well.  The Reflex can't touch the Ultradot at 50 yeads out.

And there you have it; general consensus is for fast rapid targeting, the reflex is hard to beat, at your shorter ranges. The red dot is more accurate at longer ranges, and still faster than a scope, as you do not need to keep the dot centered in the tube; put the red dot on target and bang, you got it. But for the long range shots, slower, steady rest, you can't beat a good scope... I use all three, and keep both eyes open with all of them... just my opinion... good luck!
