Well I had some time this weekend so I broke out my surplus helmet and fixed it up....
First I took the straps out and washed them. They were pretty grungy and I was going to throw them out but I figured a ride in the washing machine wouldn't cost me anything. They came out like new!!! Next I broke out the black spray paint. I put three coats on and the outside looks great...brand new even. I didn't flip it over and do the inside...not sure I will either. Then I cleaned the velcro disks on the inside. Took some time but they cleaned up nice. Finally I opened the pack of Oregon Aero pads that came with the helmet and installed them. I must say, for how rough this helmet looked when I bought it, it looks brand new now! Well worth the $60 I paid for it. Just figured I'd share. I don't really post pics or else I'd have some up. Just look up "MICH helmet"....yeah...that is what it looks like...in black. -Emt1581 |
