Guys, I ordered a NOS can listed as an AAC. It arrived at my dealer on a F3 listed as a "Gemtech/AAC". The can looks new and unused, same for the barreled AR upper that it came with and even the AAC case looks mint. For the life of me I cant figure out how you'd get two manufacturers on an item. Is / was there any relation between Gemtech or AAC ? I was unaware if they were partnered at some point. Any thoughts on what the story could be? Am I worrying about nothing here? ATF approved the F3 so I cant imagine they'd deny the F4. |

This is a quick run down by Kevin, the owner of AAC... I was a NFA dealer -MG's dried up -I starting dealing in silencers, AWC -They had a big price increase -Gemtech was a new company, their prices were good -I dealt in their silencers for a couple of years -I was 1/2 of their business -We were helping one another grow...a lot -I started having more influence in their business -I started helping with product ideas, eventually having completely new product ideas and fully funding those ideas...in advance. Over $20,000 at a time. -Several people owned Gemtech, as do now -It didn't work out, as partnerships generally don't last -The owners split up while owing me two funded in advance projects...about $50,000 -They refused to deliver, I demanded my money -They sent me parts in boxes, incomplete, rather than assembled units -I was pissed -I demanded they make it right -They started avoiding my calls, etc. -I told Phil that they had to complete everything, or refund me, or I would start making silencers -Phil laugh and said, "Go ahead" -I took it as a challenge |
That little tidbit makes a whole bunch of other stuff a little more understandable. |

Yes, it is a mirage. Cant wait to get my hands on it ! Thanks for that story, interesting read. Glad to know there is some legitimate history there and I'm sure Gem has their version too. For some reason, I was woried that it was a Gemtech rebuild (gemtax) or something like that. Good to know that it's good to go. |
| Here's an old AAC web page showing Gemtech product >>> December 1998 |
Funny to see that. I have an older magazine article about the Mirage from about 1998. It lists AAC as the primary distributor for Gemtech products. |
I know what you're saying but it's all getting old. This is supposed to fun, remember? There are many other quality companies out there without all the shenanigans and that's where I'll spend my money going forward. -X |
I hear what you are saying, and I am sick of it also. But what you have to ask yourself is.... what, if anything do you EVER hear from Gemtech in regard to all of this? Then ask yourself who is slinging all of the mud? |
You'll probably get a half-welded, copy of a copy with three logos and a warranty that is enforceable only in Bangladesh if you send your defective gun with it. Not to mention it will be rated at 49dB and only really be able to deliver 28dB unless its tested with one piss poor hand load on a 96" fluted barrel while metered in Georgia during a hailstorm on a Sunday afternoon. It will be made from half inconel, half pot metal and half grade 12 heat treated space age aerospace strength bailing wire. Hey, but as long as the engraving is strait and it comes in a nice package you'll be all set.

I'm so glad you're unbiased. |

I'm glad you have a sense of humor |
OK here is some additional info for you... From Mongo, a designer working on contract basis for AAC... Here is some other behind the scenes Dater stuff with AAC. This is long before I met Kevin or Robert or even worked on a contract basis for AAC. I was a member of the NFAlist which is a e-mail list of the largest C3 dealers (but there are many smaller ones as well) and many of the C2 manufacturers that are out there. This list was/is secret and Phil Dater is a member of it. Dater many times on the NFAlist bad mouthed AAC to the C3 dealers on it and claimed that AAC was just copying Gemtech designs. I even believed this line of bullshit until I finally bought a SCARAB suppressor from AAC about 5 years ago. Even then I was not sure but when I agreed to do contract work for AAC and I could see the inside of their designs, I knew Dater was lying his ass off. I was also fortunate enough to learn the truth about Gemtech's lawsuit against AAC but I had not publicly said anything allowing Kevin to tell it to the public if he felt he needed. This is why I refused to do any more business with Gemtech and Dater. Dater has managed to screw over every one he has ever worked with in the suppressor business (at least based on what I'm told by the screwed). So when you see people say that Gemtech is stand up and never bad mouths AAC it is bull shit because Dater does it with the dealers directly through the largest ones. From Kevin, the owner again... That has been the problem for years...the other side slithers behind the scenes offering BS for what really took place. This does not give us a chance for a rebuttal, so people assume those guys are being honest. I can document our side. I can post it. This is why they refuse to comment publicly. It is not because they take "the high road.” They spent the first two years we were in business trying to sue us out of business...with suits for such “…causing embarrassment”, etc. Hope this helps since you thought Gemtech never threw any mud. Is AAC the only one who bashes? No. Are they the only one who files lawsuits? No. |
| Its a suppressor forum in a thread asking about the relationship between AAC and Gemtech. I think the last post I made at the end of page one was intersting... you didnt think so? It addressed the specific belief the realtion ship betwen AAC and Gemtech is one sided for the mudslinging. What could be more appropriate? |
