This has probably been beat to death but I didn't see anything recent on this topic. I have a ptr a3r on its way from Atlantic and would like to reload for this in the future. I have read online users of this rifle using the port buffer but since this has a welded pic rail it will not work. Are there any alternatives to help keep the brass from getting beat up too bady?

How big of a deal are the flute marks on the case purely cosmetic or will this affect function?

Here is a good link on reloading for the .308 HK rifles from over on HKPro.com.

The flute marks are non-consequential from my view. The issue is that the back of the ejection port leaves a nasty crease in the body of the case. You might rig something hanging down from the pic rail to buffer it, or even try a piece of Velcro to soften the impact.

I wonder if an SR-25 brass deflector would work on the railed PTR's.   A pretty penny from Knight's but airsoft clones are around $30.

Flute marks and dents aren't a big deal other than cosmetic.   My rifle leaves a small raised bump on the rim from ejection that I have to take off with a file.   Not a bid deal either but yet another step added to the reloading process.
Make sure you use lots of lube.   When resizing you would swear your brass was fired out of a worn out M60 barrel.
