Now that i have mastered .223
I want to start on .308, .30.06 and .270 Can i use the same seating die for the three? Can i turn .270 brass into .30.06? if i am neck sizing only and not full length sizing, can i use the same sizing die for both 308 and .30.06? (all brass being used has been once fired through the gun reloading for) |

Now that i have mastered .223 I want to start on .308, .30.06 and .270 Ok, 3 very simple cartridge to work with... Can i use the same seating die for the three? NO.. best served to use proper seat die for each caliber Can i turn .270 brass into .30.06? Want to say yes, but 270 is not a cartridge I own.. there may be some case mouth work required, so 270 is common available case, so why bother if i am neck sizing only and not full length sizing, can i use the same sizing die for both 308 and .30.06? A .270 Win seater won't work with the .30 caliber cartridges. A .30 caliber seater won't support the case neck of a .270 Win.
But if I was in a pinch and needed a cartridge loaded, I would try something rather than wring my hands and roll over. Same with converting a common case. But I wouldn't mess with it as a standard practice, I'm getting old enough that my time is becoming extraordinarily valuable. |

Both types of brass are very readily available (there's plenty of '06 on the equipment exchange right now!) that it's not worth the headache. if i am neck sizing only and not full length sizing, can i use the same sizing die for both 308 and .30.06? (all brass being used has been once fired through the gun reloading for) Be best served to use die for caliber desired to be on the safe side Again, if you're getting a die set, you'll have the die anyway - no sense in not using it. Also, outside dimensions on the '06 are different from the .308, so it would depend on what type of die you use. The simple answer is to get a die set for each caliber, and use the correct dies for the correct round. I shoot a lot of .,270 and '06, so I just stock both types of brass. |

Thanks for all the answers. It was more for my curiosity rather than actually wanting to use these methods. |
