A friend of mine does cowboy action shooting using 45 Long Colt blanks from a single action revolver. She has asked me to help her learn to reload blanks. I've reloaded regular cartridges a lot, but never blanks. She sent me a link to a Hornady die set for loading/crimping blanks.... Didn't even know you could do that.
Before I run off to googleland, is this an accepted practice? Can blanks be reloaded safely and reliably? I assume so given that a company like Hornady makes dies... Looking for a place to start. Thanks |

I load them in .223 for launching a modified practice grenade. Small amounts, like 2 to 5 grains, of fast burning powder like Bullseye and Red Dot are what I use. Since you won't be firing any type of projectile, you could probably start at 5 grains and go up for more effect. IIRC the powder Trail Boss is used a lot as it burns pretty clean, Bullseye not so much.
