I use reeloadersnest to get an idea about powders, charges, velocity, etc. Because it's user submissions, I check with a second source.

| I haven't used any Partitions but one of my favorite 8x57 loads uses 200 grain Speer hot-core soft points and 41.6 grains (a Lee 3.1cc dipper) of IMR 4064 with Federal 210 primers. The Hodgdon website lists a starting load of 40 grains and a max of 44.5 so it's a pretty mild load. |

You are correct it is readily available but most new brass ive seen is 50 cents a piece. If you don't mind a little bench time you can cut costs substantially with once fired 3006. |

Yeah, if you have the .30-06 brass and don't need it... but if you have to buy new brass the prices aren't that much different. I can use the .30-06 brass for its intended purpose, so I usually do. Unless I've got a good reason for it, I'd rather have the correct headstamp on brass if I can. I do make exceptions for that though... all the .270 brass I get turns into .30-06 and all the .243 turns into .308... But that's because I don't have rifles in those two calibers (but I have friends who do and don't reload, so I sometimes get some free brass). |
