Guys,

I've only ever shot surplus stuff through my FAL, but since surplus has pretty much dried up, I'm considering reloading now.  My FAL seems to have a fairly strong recoil spring, and I'm worried about pushing bullets back into the case during feeding.  Does anybody else worry about that?  I have a Lee factory crimp die for my AR reloading, but I wanted to see what everybody does for the FAL.

Thanks for the input.

I use the Lee factory crimp and haven't had any problems.

haven't reloaded for the FAL, but shot plenty of M-14s M-1A's in competition...  never crimped one reload.

Never had any ammo problems.

Crimping is not really nessisary.  Even a crimped round that hits an obstruction in loading significant enough will set back.  Mine damn made one look like a Korean war era MiG when the case in front didn't eject and it was a factory round with a heavy crimp.

That said I do use just a touch of Lee Factory Crimp die on mine to add a little tension and make the release consistent.  It does seem to reduce my ES and SD when done like that.

ETA:
Expect poor case life (3 maybe 4 shots) when shooting full power loads.  Mine has a nice tight .308 chamber and it still stretches cases WAYYYYY more than a bolt action or rotating, locking bolt would.  I measure 8-11 thousandths of shoulder growth even when fired with the gas turned off on any load that touches standard FAL velocities.
