I've started getting back into reloading again.   The manuals I have (Speer, Sierra, Nosler, Hodgdon & vrs powder company brochures) are all at least 10 years old and don't contain recipes for some cartridges I now want to load.  I'm considering ordering Hornady's newest manual.   Anyone have positive or negative comments about Hornady's or Sierra's newest manuals?

I haven't seen the new Hornady yet, but the old one was pretty good. The new one has a bunch of new calibers and data for their lead free bullets. I don't think sierra has done an update since Ed. 5. Both are good and worth having, but they will focus on their own brand of bullets for the obvious reason. Pick up as many different manuals and published data books as you can so you can cover a wider range of components and cross check between them. Another good reference is the Loading Data Center on the Hodgdon website. They have data for all Hodgdon, winchester, and IMR powders available for free. I print data sets I'm interested in and put them in my own notebook. Also, Ramshot and Accurate powder data manuals can be downloaded from their websites, and Alliant makes some data available on their site too.

What calibers do you want to load?

Lyman 49 is a good manual, as are the Sierra and Hornady manuals.

Also don't forget the online data from the powder companies.

Welcome back to reloading.

I have the Hornady 8th and the latest Sierra (not sure which edition- and I'm not home to see it). I use them both to compare load data against each other when I start a work up.

Also, the instructional section of each contains some information that is beneficial, but only listed in one or the other manual.

I have a few manuals, some are older, some are makers of powder. When i try a new powder I go online for recipes.

If your old recipes work for your guns, i wouldnt get a new manual unless your going to do your loads differently.

All powder mfg. have an online reloading guide that you can download or request a hard copy of.  If you can't find a load there call them or email them with all your specs and they will give you or send you  data.  Between those options,my Lyman reloading manuals both for Jacketed and Cast I've pretty much loaded about anything I needed to with having to purchase everyones manuals.
