I bought a used Remington 11-87 police, about two weeks ago. The other day I disassembled it and cleaned it, and then reassembled. Now however, I am noticing that there is some play back and forth from the barrel and handguard. I hadn't noticed this before and the handguard used to fit snugly. There is also a gap at the front of the handguard that is about 1-2 mm, so there is that much play in the handguard. The barrel moves forward and back but not nearly as much. The detent in the front of the handguard doesn't engage when screwing the magazine extension in like it should. What do you guys think the problem may be? I put the barrel clamp/sling swivel on so that the barrel is seated slightly forward and everything is tight, but there is no way I'm going to shoot it like this until I know what the issue is.
Thanks for the help |

A simple install problem of the mage tube extension. take it off. remove the tube from the mag tube coupling and screw the mag tube coupling on first, then the mag tube into that. Problem over. If not then call me at 231-6909-0954 with the weapon in front of you and we will solve it.
The Remington tube extension comes off as one unit but installs apart. If you put the mag tube coupling on first then you will wratchet down on the dentent ball. You then screw in the tube but stop with a thread or so left and bump the mag tube coupling with the heel of your hand to make sure the magazine spring is not getting caught in the threads. Screw it on down, install bracket and go. |

It should close down on the detent ball. It is a one piece unit with so a different issue then the Remington. Still, try bumping the mag tube coupling with the heel of your hand to make sure the spring is not preventing it from screwing all the way on. If the get caught it creates a gap and latter the magazine spring can slip into that cap and prevent yu from loading 6 rounds. Try that and see if it will lock down on the detent ball. If there is not detent ball then you need a "Wave Washer" to lock the mag tube on the barrel ring. You can get a pack of 3 from Brownells for around $5.50. Just go to www.brownells.com and enter 1100 Wave Washer in the search block.
If the Wilson does not lock down tight then the wave washer may also fill that gap and secure the barrel and tube extension. You need a light lock for safe operation. |

I spoke with the nice fellows at Wilson Combat and they suggested taking a few thousandths off the 'pointy' end of the mag tube. I did this slowly with a mill bastard file and that seemed to do the trick... I think there was an issue with the SGT tube not being threaded quite deep enough... Surprising for a WC product, but... There is no more play in the foreend and the barrel is now locked up nice and tight. Hopefully it won't blow up when I fire it... |
