Does it have the vented rib on it?   Back in the day these were converted into "scout" type rifles, a friend of mine had one in .350 rem. mag. that he use to sling on his back when he went fly fishing in Alaska.

The 600 had the vent rib.  The 660 was the later version with standard barrel.  Something of a cult item, production numbers weren't very large.

Correct.  Below is my 600 in .308.

They are great little rifles.  A good choice for light weight brush gun.

No vent rib, but I already have a Remington Mohawk 600 in .243. It does Not have a vent rib and never did.  Are the mohawks the exception to the 600=vent rib rule?  are these rifles, 600&660, virtually the same?

I don't know if it's a "rule" or not, but I've had both a 600 and a "Mohawk" in .308 over the years and IIRC my 600 had a plastic rib and the Mohawk didn't have one at all.  They were both bought used, but I believe they were original/unmodified guns.

Had a 600 no rib .308 in the 1970s it was a tack driver and very light. I would love to find another at a good price... do not sell guns just buy and buy!!!!! they have become quite collectable these days

Was there an issue with the safety on some of these rifles? I thought I read a warning about this model possibly firing when disengaging the safety.   ????
