So I picked up this Wingmaster last year in a FTF deal here in the Tampa area. The seller said it was a 1975 model but from what I can tell from the two letter date code on the barrel, it's a 71.

My problem is that I'm concerned that the barrel might not be original but the overall consistent condition of the gun is excellent. Aside from the scratch under the Wingmaster logo.

Also, does anyone know when the first year the LEO Folder was introduced? When did the Riot model come out?

Just looking for some education on these older 870s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Barrel looks to be reblued.

Police model if the stock is original to the gun, should have a chromed bolt.

Looks to be refinished to me along with the barrel.

Well built, better then the new shit.

The bolt is chromed. What makes you think that the barrel was reblued? Just curious. Someone at my LGS said the same thing.

Because of the purple BBL clamp. I had one reblued and it turned out exactly the same color.

That's just the way the old guns looked.  I have a 40 year old 870 Trap with the same coloring.

Same here, I inherited what is probably a 70's model wingmaster and the barrel band is purple-ish.

The brand new Dupont Remington I got as a teenager had same thing. Purple barrel ring because it's a different alloy steel brazed to the barrel.

I've seen factory-finished barrel supports that were purple-ish also. The mag clamp is newer though. Remington used a flat head screw back then. I'm not sure when they started offering them with the QD swivel.

I posted a couple years ago asking what year the PFS 87 was introduced, and didn't get an answer. Whoever answered the phone when I called Remington didn't know either.

Did you call Remington and ask what year that serial number was made? They may provide its original configuration as well.
