I recently bought a 16" 1/9 twist barrel at a gun show for $15. The reason why it was so cheap was that when the barrel was coated the bore wasn't plugged so the bore got coated also. I bought it planning on building a dedicated rimfire so I wasn't too worried about it. Turns out the coating is causing all kinds of accuracy issues. The best group I was able to get was about 18" at 50 yards. I have a 1/8 twist barrel that is decent enough to practice drills with but the barrel I bought will not even work for that. I don't expect match accuracy but decent enought to be able to run drills with.

I have already tried lapping with Flitz, scrubbing with a bronze brush, chucking a bronze brush in a drill and running it back and forth through the bore as well as running steel wool through the bore. I have tried oven cleaner and aluminum black which is a mild acid. None of this has put a dent in the ceramic coating.

Question is, is there anything I can use to remove the ceramic coating from the bore?

The dealer was selling the crap out of these at $15 and now I wonder if it was even worth that.

Thanks

how far down is it coated?  Looks like an SBR upper if only the front part

Not sure how they did it but it is coated all the way down the bore.
