Folks,
I need to get an ACU uniform to use for drill. I have not been to any training yet; it is my first drill. I'd rather not drive 3 hours to a PX so I was hoping to get everything online. I have no idea where to begin, so help would be most appreciated. My body is as follows: 6'6 195 LBS 16.4" neck 35 waist Can any active or former members of the Army direct me to a legitimate online source for uniforms, boots, and caps and suggest sizes? To answer your question:
Rangerjoes.com has uniforms, boots, rank, shirts and socks. Everything you need. There are other websites but thats the first to come to mind. Pants and Top you will need either a Med/Xlong or Large/Xlong Im 6'5 220lbs and wear L/XL in both. All boot brands sizes run different so you just have to try them. Like others have said its bullshit they want you to buy them. |

Is the right one available at a PX? Many are not. Don't try to halfass it. Go in appropriate civies, and they will issue you the correct stuff. Do not waste your money on some shit they're obligated to provide to you. I went in Civies to drill for two months before I got my issue, just be within reg on all facial hair, haircut yada, yada....... I repeat do not buy a uniform, you will earn that bitch sitting around for 10-12 hr days once a month.......

When I showed up for my first drill, I did so in my old uniform, with my old patches still on it. While my new unit did hook me up with full issue, they didn't do it before that drill. I'd say, if you can find an extra set and you can afford it, no harm no foul. It's not like supply sergeant will say, "Oh, you've already got one uniform, so we can issue one less." They'll still issue your full kit, you'll just have a spare set, which is never a bad thing. I'd hit the local Salvation Army thrift store and Goodwill for used uniforms first, then try LA Police Gear. ACU's should be hitting the surplus market by now, so you might be able to find some in your local surplus store. |

Just looking at your height, I would say medium/extra long on both the shirts and pants.
That noted, a clean pair of jeans, polo shirt, and clean hiking boots or sneakers is probably a better bet. I would only even consider buying a set if you are both prior service and are expecting a spot in a MOS reclass school sometime soon (my situation.2 years ago). Non-prior? Go in civvies. |
