I recently purchased a used aluminum lower receiver that’s a bit glossy. It has the original finish and looks like it has been lightly polished. I can tell it left the factory with the standard matte black anodized finish by looking into the magazine well. I do not want to refinish it and am looking for a way to dull it up and get it back to its original matte look (or something close). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You *might* be able to wipe it down with some denatured alcohol or something similar on a rag, maybe it's just oil on the surface?

Thanks "Lester_Burnham". It's not oil, I have already tried a degreaser with no luck. I'll give the denatured alcohol a shot. If that does not work, I'll move up to something a bit stronger like acetone or lacquer thinner. I don't think any of these will remove the finish, but one of them may just dull the sheen.
