Any thoughts on parkerizing and extending the mag tube? I wouldn't dream of trading the famous deep, deep blue of a Belgian Browning for any aftermarket finish unless it was already ruined. I'm leery of magazine extensions. I had a Choate come apart at the threads once, and the follower, spring and ammo all squirted downrange. I'd rather have stone-cold reliability than an extra round or two. With an Auto-5, the magazine can't be supported by the barrel, so I'm even more reluctant to lengthen it. Besides, if a problem can't be solved with five rounds of buckshot, it's probably not gonna get solved. |
| On my a5 and model 11 I have had zero issues with the mag extensions. The mag tube is somewhat supported by the wood forend and barrel so the negligible amount of force the mag extension puts on it has not been an issue. Plus it's nice to have 8 shots on board. No need for the butt cuff. Good looking build really like the way the wood turned out. The round knob A5's just have the best look. |

Just got back from a thorough test drive. With the recoil system on the high setting, it digested everything. With some low-base target loads ejection wasn't exactly energetic, but there were no malfunctions. With everything else, function was perfect and brisk. Winchester, Remington, Fiocchi and Wolf. Birdshot, buckshot, and slugs. I'm a happy guy.
At seven yards, buckshot spread about six inches. At twenty yards, it spread about two feet. |

Beautiful! I love the look of blued steel and wood. The leather shell holder completes the look. I am working on a similar project, but with a slightly different shotgun. Just received it in the mail two days ago. My thoughts exactly. Very nice shotgun! |

Splitting hairs. Same gun. Most parts are not interchangeable. The Remington's have a buffer in the reciever. The Brownings have Speed-feed and a magazine cutoff. But back to the original point of your post: a 20" barrel on a Browning is neither historically accurate nor tactically more desirable, so I see no compelling reason to use that length. |

I agree. My only point was there were Browning designs with factory 20" barrels. Sorry for any derailment. All riot guns and trench guns 1897, Model 12 Steven 520, 620 ect where made with 20 inch barrels. Some where made and sometimes they where cut if none where available for a run. You see legit trench guns marked full or mod. Winchester even made 26 inch cyl 1897 barrels that where cut to 20 for trench guns so there was no hole for the bead since it was on the shield. |

I have an old 870 Police with a factory 18" barrel. were/where |

The evolution continues. With the addition of a Nordic +1 magazine extension, the Auto-5 is now an Auto-6: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c116/Oblio13/FullSizeRender_zps14a878e0.jpg Very cool. I want. |

I have one of these projects still in the works. I put it together from a receiver assy and barrel off Ebay. Unfortunately the barrel was tinkered with and it changed the timing on the Model 11. I need to get a bead welded on and do some filing to get things back to running. The wood I bought unfitted and unfinished, doing the work myself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/johnrippert/Model11.jpg In the meantime I found a 16ga Stevens 620 and took it down to 20" to make myself a nice 5+1 takedown shotgun. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/johnrippert/Stevens620A_zps39e4a3da.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/johnrippert/Stevens620B_zps82e98b1a.jpg VERY cool Stevens 16ga. For some reason I love the 16. I have 4 of them in diff. sizes, capacities, etc. My favorite is an old model 12 that my FIL gave me years ago. Now that I think about it...I have more 16ga. than I do 12ga. |

I currently have an 870 Express, 11-48, and 1100. The 870 Wingmaster may be the hardest to come across in decent shape. |

Semi-relevant. But a neat read. |
