I remember seeing somewhere that there were some recent legal (I am aware of the MKS affair) M-14 rewelds made by a company called "Hahn Machine and tool" (or something close). I actually sort of remember the ad in SGN or Gun list. Any one have any info on these? Any contact info for the company? I know of some cut of M-14 receivers, that maybe be able to be rewelded.

Specialty Arms and Hahn Machine rewelded some (less than 50 total) M14 receivers prior to 05-19-86.  Every once in a while you will see one on www.gunbroker.com for sale.  If you're going to go Class 3 I suggest a select fire Smith Enterprise M14 NM or Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A model.  I agree, stay clear of rewelded M14 rifles.

Unless the receiver is welded thru the locking lugs there's no loss of strength in welded receivers.  All the firing forces are in the locking lugs.  (Heck, the M16 has an aluminum receiver.  No forces on it, of course, other than the locking lugs inside the barrel extension.)

There is some stress when the bolt smacks the rear of the receiver, but that's pretty minor.

If properly welded, as the MKS receivers were, there's nothing wrong with these safety wise.
