I just got rejected on my longest F1 wait time to date.

Their reason for disapproval is I didn't put "SerialXXXXXX".  I put the actual serial number which is XXXXXX.

Is there anyway to resolve this without resubmitting?

They are clearly wrong and if I resubmit it like the retard wants they are just going to reject that.

No, resubmit.

Unfortunately, most likely you'll have to resubmit and hope the next examiner isn't retarded.

It's not guranteed, but you can try emailing them at IPB @ atf.gov with your issue, I think some people have had some success contacting that email instead of the NFAFAX or "ask the experts" route.

Emailed a few addresses.  Hopefully, this idiot doest have my other applications.

They had that for 3 months and then pulled this retarded shit.

I have two pending and I just type whatever is the serial # into the box on eForms.  I dont know why youd type "Serial#" before the actual serial number.

But then again...

Write the serial number and model exactly as it is engraved on your receiver or you are going to get denied.

I take pictures of the stampings of the make, model, and serial numbers and include them on all my form 1s. Not that it is a fix all but it can’t hurt and may prevent a denial.

I did that.

To my eyes it looks like H&R has "SERIAL" followed by a space and then the serial number.  The two are close but that very much looks like it is due to the overall margins of the engraving.

Wouldn't be the first time I have been wrong though.

@mike_nds

Are the serial numbers on the H&R lowers, specifically the Commandos, "SERIALXXXXXX" or "XXXXXX"?

I've done that, still denied due to "wrong" model.

Still, a good idea to do but those retards will deny anything for any reason

I had one rejected because I didnt list the serial prefix.

It started with WW but I only listed the numbers.

I just resubmitted it.

I get that.  That males sense to me.  Serial numbers can be alphanumeric.

My question at this point is if the H&R serial numbers are SERIALXXXXXX or XXXXXX.

Yeah I got a denial for only the number once and not the preceding letters.
Funny thing was I was going off a previous approval a couple years earlier.
I went ahead and contacted ATF via letter to fix that oops.

And I resubmitted the denial.  But it only took 14 days.

Sorry OP.

Damn. I submitted about a dozen or so in February. I had one kicked back, four approved (in two weeks) and now crickets for the last 8 or so. Weird, inconsistent process and knowing my luck, I've waited almost five months and will get them back "disapproved" and have to resubmitt

I have a Spikes lower that I’m doing a .45 D/I SBR… same thing. Two months, disapproval and said that but also that the manufacturer “must match the lower.” LLC isn’t on there, so ended up in pending research, got out and the name was jacked up in the eForm. Reached out to them to correct. Person said manufacturer’s name DOES NOT need to match the lower… pulled it and I needed to resubmit a third time. Thought DEI was over.

Sorry, but if I have “Mod” before ST15, it is logical that the similar placement is signifying “Serial” instead of being part of it.

But also why if I need to run a serial number (to see if stolen), I’d run just the numbers, which should pull both.

Some have speculated they might be using AI to help process forms.  I wonder if bad AI choices plus lazy examiners not scrutinizing the AI's work for the final sign-off are the reason for some of these braindead outcomes we're seeing.

So, is there a space between SERIAL and 123456, or not?  I agree that if there is no space and it’s all one continuous character string, then the entire thing is the serial number.  If there is a space in between, then it should just be the number.
6/13/2026 5:48:09 PM EDT
[#24]
Looks like a small space to me and I assumed the proximity between the two was due to the overall margins set for the engraving space and the number of characters.

Mike said they are one so I guess they are.

Small gap here, and ATF approved it with 9001xx as the serial number. I didn't submit any photos with my application, but this was done a couple of years ago.

ETA: This is pretty f'ing stupid on their part, IMO. Why would 'serial' ever be considered as part of the serial number whether there's a gap or isn't?

Unless the model has an abbreviation for the manufacturer in front of it, like Sig or HK, in which case you could get disapproved for including it, or for excluding it, and they're not 100% consistent on that one. In general, I think you should leave it off but I have seen at least one person recently disapproved for not including "Sig" in the model name for a Sig MPX.

In contrast, I was recently disapproved after a nearly 80-day wait for specifying "HK SP5K-PDW" for model, as it appears on the top of the firearm and in the picture I submitted with my application. I was directed to reapply specifying just "SP5K-PDW", which I really should have done in the first place, regardless of what appeared on the firearm.

But to their credit, they saw the issue with me having to reapply while facing the July 1st deadline in Virginia, so they offered to fast track my resubmitted application, which was pretty solid.

That really helped my case when I spoke with the reviewer. He could see how you could go either way, and that I leaned into specifying exactly what was on the firearm.

Off topic, but to me that doesn't bode well for Va post form 1 approval's for affected firearms. Really should have bought my AP5 earlier than I did.

I had a similar issue with a model number recently. Numerous other approvals with exactly what I submitted.

I reached out to my congressman just because. These fucks need reminded they work for us.

All for a $0 tax stamp… The only silver lining is this sort of shit is going to help us with the pending lawsuits IMO.
