Anyone have the scoop on Ruger's plans to join the AR15 crowd? |
|
![]() Too True. I don't have much faith in Ruger after Bill died, come tho think of it I wasn't that proud before then either. Their failure of the mini's kind of left me looking for another manufactur. I do have several 10-22s and I am still in the market for a MK2, but the rest of their lineup disappoints me. |
|
You'll probably have to load them by lifting up the upper and putting 10 rounds in the magwell with a sealed bottom, then closing the AR Actually I know nothing about Ruger, lots of companies getting into ARs, so it wouldn't be a shock, they seem a little less PC these days, with the little 45 and the little 380. |
Then they had to screw them up with the MKIII mods and plastic trigger housings for the 10/22. |
|
The Vaqueros are nice and I have a 10/22T w/ stainless barrel that is superb....I did have to rebuild the stock trigger cause it sucked.....but it will hold groups at 75 yds that you can cover with a sweet pea. The P-85 I had sucked and the mini I had sucked......outside of that, I think I'll pass on any AR they squirt out. |
And the mag would be proprietary, not NATO/STANAG.
![]() That's the nice thing about my ARs is that they don't have stupid warnings all over them.
![]() The name alone, much less their logo just completely brings up too many bad memories, regardless of whatever they might do currently or in the future. |
| The whole receiver will probably be filled with warnings about safety, instructions on how to get an owners manual and the MSDS sheets on every possible cleaning solvent. Of course, it will have three trigger locks and won't fire unless you have a magazine inserted and click your heels three times while simultaneously turning three keys in the magwell. It will also take 3 hours to take down. |
AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PursuitSS |
Ruger seems to have come around. They aren't marketing the pure Fudd market like they were. They have introduced several new firearms, that go against their former, flawed, policy. I'm amazed at any modern firearm manufacturer that doesn't have an AR line. ARs are some money makers. |
|
Ruger is too big for the AR15 market. They are going after the Big 3! vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1083901/index.htm |
They have? How about you go down to your local gun shop and place an order for a Mini-14 with the factory folding stock and three or four 30 round FACTORY RUGER BRAND magazines. OH! Your not a Law Enforcement Agency? Sorry, you CAN'T have them! PursuitSS |
competition? what competition?there is NOTHING, nothing that the mini does that the ar cant surpass five fold. hehe |
Say again? ![]() They haven't even bothered to maintain production or quality of their Mini-14 line. If they actually kept their ear to the ground Butler Creek wouldn't be alone in raking in so much dough for replacement folding stocks for their rifles. |
If their main interest was making money they would have jumped all ower the CCW market like a cop on donuts years ago. Or maybe sold factory 20 and 30 round mags for the Mini-14 and the Mini-30. I seriously doubt that Ruger will get into the black rifle business. |
|
Bill is dead. Ruger seems to be turning a new leaf with some of it's recent offerings. Plus there was a stockholder's meeting or the like a while back where they were pining over their not getting into the AR field. I'd rather see them fix the mini and be a little freer with the goods for it than see them jump into the AR market. Their last attempt at trying to fix the Mini (that target behemoth looking thing) just looked like someone at the helm had no freaking clue. Come on Ruger, break out the goods. Folding/collapsing stocks, better barrels, 20rd mags that don't cost $50 a pop, and some 30rders. Maybe try to machine a part or two, casting can only go so far. |
LE can't buy new 30 rounders nor a factory folder since they don't make either one anymore. Things are changing at Ruger. I'm not running to pay $800 for an NRA model, but they are coming around since Bill Ruger passed away. |
They are doing those things now. Its not family owned business anymore. |
Yes. It will utilize an 18" 1 in 24 twist barrel, a walnut stock, and will come standard with a three round magazine. Also, it will be made of blued steel and weigh 14 pounds. It is guaranteed to shoot 8" groups out of the box unless you buy the version with the barrel-accuracy-thing-harmonic-twist-gayness. Also, it will look just like a Kel-tec P3AT. |
You obviously haven't had the pleasure of firing the new MOA accurate Mini-14s.. You can take the harmonic dampener off if you dislike the looks and it should still shoot respecfully..... |
Another AR brand and a Ruger to boot. ![]() The 10/22 and MK2 were the only good things to come out of Ruger and they managed to screw them up recently so I have little hope for a decent AR from them. It will probably have a thumbhole stock, 1/14 barrel for shooting ultralight varmint loads, non GI mag well with 5 round mags, and as other posters have stated about seven paragraphs of saftey warnings stamped on it. |
|
Uh...I like my Mini-14. (The AR is more accurate but the Mini is also fun to shoot) My Vaquero is beautifully built and performs flawlessly. My M77 in .338 will rock the arm but pretty much drive tacks. And my brother has a No 1 in .458 Win Mag that I have been trying to trade him out of for ages. Old Bill was a dick on many levels, especially to this crowd, but I just can't hate an American company that makes firearms. Surely they may redeem themselves from their past sins, can't they? I forgave S&W when ownership changed hands and I think that with Bill Sr. out of the captain's chair Ruger will have a different attitude toward civilians. Of course, I could be wrong, in which case -- the Zumbo Protocol. |
