| So what do you guys think of Ruger’s New LCP Lightweight .380 Pocket Pistol. I own a kel tec p3at and the Ruger looks like a blatant copy. Don't get me wrong I am thinking about getting one just because of the slide stop. Looks like a good pocket/deep cover gun. |

It looks like a rebadged P3AT, or Ruger is making a licensed version. The exploded view shows way too many similarities for it to be an unlicensed knockoff. It would be lawsuit city. I'm pretty sure KelTec has a patent on the hammer spring. IMHO, the P3AT has one major design flaw (and it can be overcome with technique appropriate for the pistol): If you do not fully release the trigger after a shot, and pull it again, the hammer drops from half-cock without enough energy to ignite the round, which then leaves you with a dead pistol until you fully release the trigger and pull the slide far enough back to bring the hammer to half-cock. Years of shooting Glocks and 1911s with short trigger resets has given me a trigger reset habit that is bad with the P3AT. Karl |

Buddy of mine writes articles on the side and has the LCP at the moment, Ive shot it, and will probably pick one up for front pocket carry, IMHO the PM Kahrs are still a little big for this, The Kel-tecs and now the LCP's are pretty much the only game in town in the department. Fit and finish is better than the Kel-tecs and will pretty much kill the Keltecs in this market if they can keep up with demand. |
