Did Ruger ever make 20 or 30 round magazines for the Mini 30? I have a friend who is looking for some and I told him that I thought that Ruger made some. He has bought several of the Promag's and he says they don't work right. His factory 5 rounders work great. Can anybody point me in the right direction so I can help him out with a good high capacity magazine. |

Bill Ruger made it very clear in his speech to the .gov that he believed only the mil and LEO were to have hi-cap mags. That is why your Mini, whenever it was NIB, was only issued a 5rd mag. Sturm-Ruger Co. made hi-cap mags for the mini-30, hell they made a boat load of 'em, but only for the mil and LEO. So Ruger factory hi-cap mags exist, its just a bitch to find them sometimes, all thanks to the grandpappy of the Federal AWB, Bill Ruger check cdnn investments and copes distribution (google them, I'm to lazy for the hotlink), they have some mini-30 hi cap mags for sale. |
| couldn't tell you what brand they are but dkmags has different ones--scroll down to the bottom. two brands i have seen around are promag and usa. |
This is the first time I have ever heard that Ruger made Factory 20- and 30-rd mags for the Mini-30. Could you please cite a source for this info?
Ruger had nothing to do with the AWB, save trying to have it restrict mag capacity only, and not types of firearms available. Arguably, that is a better alternative than what was finally enacted, as we would still have had access to a number of firearms, in various configurations, that are scarce or nonexistent now. Maybe, just maybe, if you take the time to find out the whole story about Bill Ruger, instead of repeating some legend, you might find that he is not quite the devil that he is often portrayed as being.

LE & Corrections don't use the Mini 30. They use the Mini 14. There went your credibility. |
Thermold. They made a collapsible mag. 30 rounds collapsed, 45 expanded. (of course if I rapid fire the rifle, by the time I've done 45 rounds it's shooting about 20 MOA) I have 2 and they both function flawlessly. Almost impossible to find. Generally expensive when you do find them. ETA: How de$$perate is your friend? |
Yeah. What he said. |
Take a minute and look around on www.perfectunion.com, maybe do a search. If there's any out there, those guys will know. |

Yes, he was summoned to a subcommittee and tried to soften the coming AWB with the limited magazine idea. He was successful in planting that idea (which extended to pistols as well). Well meaning or not, he failed. We got the AWB plus magazine restrictions on rifles AND pistols. Funny - The Ruger Mini 14 was NOT on the AWB. WOW, I wonder how that happened? Kickback? Prefered treatment? Deal with the Devil? I think "LuvBUSHmaster" is speaking generically about the Mini 14, 30 as it relates to legislation. |
Maybe the fact that the standard Mini-14 had no "prominent" pistol grip, bayonet lug, or flash suppressor had something to do with the Mini-14's exclusion from the "Eeeeevil Black Rifle" club. You conspiracy folks crack me up. Get a grip.
Let him speak for himself. He has already ruined his own credibility, and you're not exactly burnishing your own. |
