Hello all. I've scoured the entire forum and gleaned a great deal of information on refinishing but I've still got some questions, so forgive me if I've missed it elsewhere in the forum.

I have a Maadi build from one of the well-known AK guys out there. The gun was parkerized and then hit with Moly Resin.  After about eighteen months of moderate use but not abuse, there is rust bleeding through the finish.  I emailed back and forth with John Norrell and he told me the only way to keep it from getting worse is to blast the gun down to bare metal and reapply the Moly Resin.  I think I'll attempt it myself, rather than go through the hassle and expense of shipping the gun back to the builder or John. Thus my questions for those of you who have done something similar.

I'm guessing I'll need to plug the barrel at both ends and wrap tape around the muzzle threads but what about the inside of the receiver?  Just blast away after removing the FCG and then paint and bake?

The bolt and carrier were done with Moly Resin as well, but the finish is wearing off on the bolt. I'm thinking I'll just blast it clean and leave it that way.

From what I've read about the degreasing process, guys are using MEK or acetone to clean both before and after the blasting process.  Is that the best way to go about it?

Last question:  I was thinking about getting a replacement power gun for the stock one that came on my HF blasting cabinet. TP Tools has a medium power gun for around $50 - is it needed or will the stock gun work just fine?

You just answered your oen question. Before you blast clean real well with acetone and I heard brake cleaner is good also. With cerakote after the cleaning you would have to heat up the parts to gas them out. there may be oil weeping out of somes areas. Clean again after then warm them up again and look for wet spots. If all is good blast that mutha. Reason for cleaning real well before is so you don't contaminate you blasting media. Blow all the grit away and clean with the samething. Reaons for that the finish may not stick and may look uneven. Wear some anal probing gloves because of your filthy hands have oils in them.

I use a empty case for the chamber end and a plastic plug made for barrels or plastic hydraulic  plug or cap at the muzzle. The bolt and carrier are up to you. I seen them polshed before.
