Do these guys manufacture M1 Garands? Seeing as how it looks unlikely that I will raise enough funds to get a M1 Garand from from OCMP.

Yes, they do although they can be hard to come by.

Question though, if you can raise the funds to buy a $1K+ pseudo Garand from SAI, why not a real deal USGI one from CMP?  Sure, it might be a rack grade in rough shape, but that's nothing a CMP furniture set and a new barrel can't fix, and you'll still probably be ahead of buying an SAI model.

There is a simple answer to that. Right now, I don't have the spare change to buy a CMP M1, and chances are looking like very soon they will be all out. So I may end up only being able to buy an M1 from SA.

If you can cough up $4-500 within the next 6 months or so, I'd say you could still get one...Remember they aren't really out...They have crates full of them, they just haven't gotten around to opening them up and going through them yet, with all the hoopla over carbines right now. And let's not forget for about the same money as SA INC charges you could also get one fron Fulton Armory, They have 2 things going for them...1. they start with a REAL  M1 Garand, 2. They know what they're doing and how to build them, That puts them a lightyear ahead of S.A. Don't get me wrong I love S.A.'s 1911's  they're pretty decent, But I'd never buy one of their M1 reproductions...Besides, why buy a reproduction when the real thing can be bought for less?

You'll pay more for a Springfield Armory, Inc. M1.

You can't afford a $400 CMP Garand but you can pay $1200 for SAI's piece of junk?

I think the best deal in a "new" Garand is the top of the line rifle built by The Garand Guy. He builds one on a USGI reciever with new wood, new barrel and ALL of the other parts are new out of the wrap USGI. This rifle is the same price as one of SA Inc's pieces of expensive junk.

Don't panic. The CMP still has tens of thousands of M1's in crates waiting to be inspected and graded. Or so I've heard.

Over 6 million Garands were manufactured, which means they are not rare nor even scarce, nor will they ever be. Even if the CMP never sells another rifle, there are enough guns and parts out there to support an aftermarket demand for generations to come. Also, the SA Inc. Garand is most certainly NOT a piece of "junk" though you would be much better served by a restored origonal.

Not sure where you are in MI, but the CMP North Store is in Port Clinton, OH - so if you can make the drive, you can pick out your own Garand from the racks.
