Has anyone ever bought a DSA upper receiver, had it registered as an SBR, and then bought a DSA OSW barrel assembly to create and own a complete OSW:

Does anyone know if DSA will actually sell you a complete OSW upper after completing your SBR paperwork????

I would appreciate any and all info you could provide.

IIRC the upper receiver on the FAL is actually the serialized part.  Therefore, it would have to be SBR'd before it left the factory, or you would have to order a 16", do the paperwork, and have it cut down yourself.

About 2-3 years ago swat magazine did a review of the shorty fal. I've wanted one ever since.

You're right... I made a mistake.... the upper is the serialized part... sorry about that.

Yes they will sell you the complete rifle but your paperwork needs to be completed first.

I shot this FA FAL SBR a year ago this coming weekend.

I stil get wood when I think about it, and at my age, wood is no easy feat.

Well, for some guys anyway.

BTW, I wont name the owner, if he chooses he can come forward (yes, an ARFCOMMER), but that Thompson was at the Battle of the Bulge. And...iirc, he also had a .45 that was with the previous owner (Bulge Vet) at the Bulge.

Im-fuckin-pressive!

Thanks for letting me know.

I fired a FAL similar to that one in FA this year.  I was expecting a mutha to handle with painful recoil.

Instead, it is very controllable.  In bursts.  Trying to sustain FA results in spraying the sky.  But 3-4 round bursts on target are easy and painless.

I recently got a FA FAL approved from ATF.  Should get the paperwork soon and take it home.  Then I have to decide if I want to do that to mine.l I have been considering it since I bought it last January.  But I want to own it as it is for a week or two first.

But if DSA responds right I might send it to them in January for this summers shoots.  Love to see the expressions on peoples faces when they rip off a burst of 308.

Why not just buy the weapon complete from DSA, with a Form 3 transfer from DSA to your dealer, and then a Form 4 transfer from your C3 dealer to you?

I normally don't come to Arf anymore but for my friend Mike (CavVet) I will make an exception.  The FAL and M1A1 pictured are mine.  Mike was here last year and we got to shoot a number of my toys.  First guy to contact me when I was in the hospital and really touched me.  Called again today, all the way across the country;  I hope he knows how much that means to me; thank you Mike.

The Tommy is transferable and WAS carried all through the war by the same fellow, Harold Cannon.  He registered it during the amnesty.   I also have the 1911 he used all through the war.  To keep same guns when he was moved around, he bribed folks.  Must have been a good idea as he survived the war, including the "Battle of the Bulge".  Sadly, like so many of The Greatest Generation, he is no longer with us......

The FAL is a Post May Sample.  Built an HK-51 then decided a FAL was in order.  Barrel is just over 11" and is a cutdown G1.  Made a sleeve for under the site base.  Not really hard to do and a BUNCH cheaper than DSA!  Cutdown the gas tube and piston.  Used DSA shorty handguards.  Can't figure out how to make it any shorter so will just get out the HK when I want ultra short (8")!  SBR .308 guns have very managable recoil but an impressive muzzle blast and flash.  The "gotcha" on the FAL is that with the stock folded it can be very uncomfortable.  A SAW PG solved that problem.

If anyone needs FAL services feel free to contact me.  I am an 07FFL/SOT so can make your SBR dreams come true!  Also can cut recvr for parra top cover etc.

And I wish there was something I could do to change that.

Thats "a large number". And my family will never forget your generosity. Being life long city dwellers, they may be armed but only go shooting when I take them, and you brought that to fruition. They talked about you for a long time, and the story still continues to be told.

Man I forgot what Ohio cold was like until that morning, but half way during unloading everything in the shooting building, I forgot all about the weather!

Sadly, like so many of The Greatest Generation, he is no longer with us......

I am not sad, actually I am glad. It would kill them to see what we have tolerated to happen to this once great nation and the constant spiral down the shitter. I am glad my Grandparents & the "Great Generation" cant see what a mess we the libs have made. And I feel sad that some of them have to see it and actually know how fucked up things have become.

Barrel is just over 11"

See, despite no sleep the night before I was paying attention.

Thanks again Mike, take care & hope to see you again soon my friend, take care.

I wish Mickey would post more here too!  He was VERY nice to me years ago during the second Bulletfest, and let me fire his FA AR 7.62x39, the Thompson, and his HK 51 - wow!  And he was a cool guy to sit around the fire with and shoot the shit.

I don't think DSA sells just the uppers for the FAL's, you can get the front end (barrel and gas sytem) but I don't think barrel and receiver as a unit. And even tho the shorty front ends are just parts, DSA still wants your completed paperwork before they'll sell you one.

I picked up a NIB 11" front end , now I"m just waiting for my receiver so I can do the Form 1and get it registered as a SBR.  I"m looking to build something just like the pic posted of the OSW, but without the railed handguards.

MickeyMouse,  It is good to see you post.  I too wish we would see more of you.

Thanks for the explanation on the FAL in the picture.
