With a 10.5" barrel would it make the gun more reliable with a light(er) bolt carrier like a semi auto carrier-vs- a full auto carrier, and a standard buffer-vs-a Hbuffer? My thought is that since there is a shorter dwell time with the short barrel, that the smaller amount of gas will have an easier time of cycling the bolt (less mass to push). is this correct? |

A standard carrier is fine, You should use a heavier buffer like an H2 this will help control bolt bounce. The shorter barrel have a problem with bolt bounce and usually the H2 buffer will cure that. If it does not you can also use a pigtail gas tube that coils around the barrel to smooth out the gas pulse. |
Are pigtail gas tubes frequently needed to resolve problems or do most people use them as a preventative measure? |
| I've used an Enidine with a semi bcg from day one with my 10.3 & it runs 100% all day everyday with a self installed CMT low pro gas block. I say start with what you have & change out buffers from there if it's not running properly. Many SBR's are more reliable with H buffers & heavier depending on some other variables such as the proper gas port size, ammo, ect. |

Gas port size is a big factor, especially if you have had the barrel cut down. I had to drill the port out on one of mine once. I was told everything from "get a heavy buffer" to "use a full auto carrier". All I did was punch the two pins out of the FSB, use the proper size drill bit, and go slow. I have not had an issue with it since and it has the lightest bolt carrier you can get and an original 60's buffer in it. |
I have a factory LMT 10.5 and I have never had an issue with it at all. I use a full auto carrier in it but I am sure it would work with a semi carrier as well. It is hands down my favorite rifle to shoot. |
