I am building a Stevens 5100 into a SBS (pistol shotgun)   I am having it engraved and putting walnut stocks on it but here is my question

The Stevens 5100's do not have serial numbers   so my question is this.  Do I put N/A in the serial number block on the form 1?   I thought of using the additional description box to put on a custom s/n maybe?

Thoughts?

NFA firearms are required to have a serial number.  If one does not already exist, you must make up and engrave one in order to "manufacture" your SBS from that shotgun, even though as a shotgun, it predates 1968 GCA, and was not at that time required to have a serial number.

This allows you to get creative with it as well.

I should have been more specific    I plan on putting a custom s/n on my question is more for the form 1   would I put the custom number in the G box for serial numb er or would I put N/A there and put the custom number in the h additional description box

I know it sounds dumb to ask but I know I will be putting "J. Stevens Arms Co.  ...." in the Name and location box and since the original S/N is non existent and the instructions for g say "if an existing firearm is being modified into an NFA firearm, enter the existing S/N of the firearm into item 4g and the name and address of the original manufacture into item 4a, do not alter or modify the existing serial number.  If the NFA firearm is being made from parts your name and address are to be entered into 4a and the serial number you create is to be entered into item 4g"

I hope you see my confusion
