So after doing a little research on the 85% commonality theory I am confused. I wanted to try and understand this. In theory if we purchase a SCAR light we can or will be able to just purchase a Barrel, Bolt and Magazine reciever and be able to shoot .308 and in essence have a SCAR heavy? Kinda like a convesion kit?
Can someone confirm or deny? |

Different uppers. A common upper receiver was being R&D'd at 1 point, though last I heard it got shelved.
Specific parts include the bolt, bbl, upper/lower receivers, firing pin(?). They might even share the same carrier, too, but not sure. All other components are sourced from the same bin. |

I am sure its true, but the "common parts" are normally stuff like stocks, springs, pins, sights, pistons, etc.
All the small stuff that is easily lost is the same, but the actual major functional parts are different. Thats the way the M16 vs M4, M16 vs SR25 is... |

Lies? They have never said the 7.62 and 5.56 were compatible. What they did say was you could change barrel lengths fast or maybe even go from .5.56 to 7.62x39 in the scar light receiver but never between 7.62 and 5.56... The -H was supposed to handle all .30 cal duties (Russian &, NATO); the -L, 5.56, 6.8 mm. Good luck on getting conversion kits. |
