I'm all about .308 barrel length myself, but the 20" SCAR heavy just looks a little funny for some reason. Maybe it it were even an inch shorter.
Anyway, I saw a "pre-order" link somewhere recently for $2200. Personally, I don't think they'll be available until Q1-2009. Sure would be a sweet toy mounted with Trijocon's .308 scope. [img='middle']http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif[/img] SCAR 20" |

Like the SCAR-L, street prices will be exponentially more than MSRP, then steadily drop over time. Heck, the SCAR-L rifles were pushing $10K when first released, now you can find them for $3K. A little longer, and prices below the $2695 MSRP will be common.
I'd rather have a SCAR-H than a SCAR-L, but I don't want to wait until they are released, then wait another 6-9 months for them to drop to MSRP or less. That's a shame, too, as I have a SRT Shadow .308 suppressor sitting in my safe without a host. |

Another way to look at all of this is that if you buy a SCAR-L, it will use the same componens as the SCAR-H so essentially, you could have one receiver and two uppers (one for 5.56 and one for 7.62x51). I will probably just buy one of each :-) The upper halves are the registered parts (unlike an AR-15's lower receiver). The way I understand it, the military has kits to covert the 7.62 version to 5.56, but not the other way around. I don't think a SCAR-L will do you any good as far as upgrading to a SCAR-H. |
