After I unload my M1A I want to get a SCAR. What type of mags do they run? Can I get standard Pmags or do I get Emags? SCAR in .223 or .308? In .223, with some slight mods, p/emags will work just fine. (mostly the notch at the rear of the mag where the bolt hold open, needs to be squared out like a USGI mag). Otherwise, any USGI mag will run. In .308, they use their own proprietary mags from FN. There's a thread on fnforum.net where someone documented how to mod a .308 pmag to work in it, but it's kind of iffy still. But, it IS cheaper than a factory FN mag, and a lot more available...factory FN mags are fairly rare right now, and MSRP seems to be around $36/each. MidwayUSA is accepting back orders for them at that price. It's also in theory possible to mod a FAL mag to work (There's also a thread about that on fnforum.net)...but the general consensus is to just wait for real mags to get into the wild in more numbers. |

IIRC, that thread is bout modifying the SCAR 17S lower reciever to accept a .308 PMag, not the PMag to fit the unaltered lower reciever. The upper reciever on a SCAR (16 or 17S) is the serial numbered part, so if you gun plumber it up with a dremel to accept .308 PMags, you can get another later. Since it is polymer, I expect someone will make an after market one that accepts PMags sooner or later. |

he was able to mod a pmag to work in an unmodified scar 17s lower. it is in one of this other vides. THIS BEGS THE QUESTION IF A DREMEL JOCKEY CAN MAKE A PMAG FIT A SCAR 17S, WHY IS MAGPUL SITTING ON THEIR ARSES? Because a dremel jockey doesn't have to listen to complaints on the internet about how his magazines are crap? "Working" and "Working 100% or we'll make it right" are 2 very different things. Magpul has said that the dimensions of the 17 lower does not leave enough allowance for a polymer magazine wall to be reliable to their tastes. Jerry fucking one with a dremel does nothing to change that. |
These all look like Pmags on the left and middle guy. Looks like they function just fine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBZBPoFXplw&NR=1 ![]() |

Quoted: And the simple solution is for MagPul to make an after-market SCAR 17S lower (and that's not the BATFE "receiver" so it can be sold w/o an FFL) that is specifically designed to take .308 PMags.Quoted: he was able to mod a pmag to work in an unmodified scar 17s lower. it is in one of this other vides. Quoted: The only reason Magpul isn't doing it is there isn't enough demand in their eyes to justify R&D and tooling. They are a monolith and a monopoly for the polymer gun part world. If anyone could do it, Magpul could. I think they'd sell as many as they are selling of the angled fore grips. |
