I have not been exposed to either rifle so I am looking for opinions on both the SCAR and ACR. I know that the Navy is buying FN's and the ACR seems to be  focused more on civy sales. What I am looking to find out is which platform is the better option. Pros vs cons of both I guess. I like how the ACR has 6.8 as an option. I am running .223, 6.8, and .308 so caliber is not a restriction.

Being in a ban state there seems to be several dealers with ACR's and only one that sells SCAR. The price differential is $850 more for the SCAR. No matter how you slice it $2000+ is a lot of cake for a rifle. But the cool new gun bug has bitten! I just want to choose the best option.

I would like to clarify this off the bat by saying that I don't own either of them, and I have extremely limited personal experience with either.

From a regular perspective, it seems to me that the SCAR is the better choice, mostly due to the limitations with the ACR and support. Maybe my information is dated, but it seems that there's only one or two or so different real options you can get for the ACR, which kind of defeats the purpose of being an "adaptive" rifle.

However, since you're in a ban state, the regular non-enhanced ACR seems to be the better idea, as you'd have to find a way to get a SCAR and then get it modded to not be a super scary "a-salt weapin of DEWM!"

I've owned both

My personal experience the ACR was more accurate and it ran 100%, I shot mine a lot (mostly suppressed) and it just ran and ran.

My SCAR I put roughly 2Krds through it and it ran great as well, did hang up on me once using a P mag that cost me a hog but it ran 99.9% of the time.

Saying that I plan on buying another SCAR this year.

Would you still choose the SCAR if you had to pin the stock open and couldn't put a forward vert grip, ala AW Ban states?

Did you mod your pmag for the SCAR?

Yes but then I wouldn't live in a ban state anyway

No, I had one of the first SCARs (early 09) and there weren't any mods for them back then like there are now, I did mod my beta mag for it.

I like how the ACR has 6.8 as an option.

BM finally released the 6.8?

I went by web sights listing about barrel change. So it is quite possible they are not yet available.

Now that the masses are inclined to go SCAR, .308 or .223?
I have plenty of .223 and .308 reloading components and gear so caliber is a non issue. I am leaning towards, .308  those of you that have a 17S are you happy with it, or do you wish you went with a 16S? Also are the 17 mags proprietary?  If not what magazines work with the 17S?

Thanks in advance!

The only reason not to buy a 17 is mags, they're hard to find and $60+ each.

That situation will correct itself. Demand is high and the DOD is getting the vast majority

You'll appreciate the SCAR platform in .308  more than 5.56. IMHO but I still went 5.56 due to ammo cost.
