had a navy lower that broke,so i decided to do a sef lower conversion this time.the sef lower is thicker and more sturdy than the navy lower. took my time with fitting and filing. it came out good and i am pleased.now all i have to do is the hk lever conversion.have not fired it yet,but it should be ok.will give a range report later.

| i have a early model and serial number is on the frame.not hard to dremmel out a clearence in the lower.take your time and go SLOW.alot of trial and fitting.i am good at it.it is my 3rd 1.first 1 i ground out for the serial number.second 1 ears broke on a navy lower. |

Thats what I did to mine to, I just thought your supposed to have a serial number on the receiver? |

Like his in the picture, unless he blurred it out extremely well. I see a lack of them on google images also. Also no import marks/symbols. |

The lower is not the serialized receiver for ATF purposes. It's the right half of the upper receiver. I know... But I see a lot without the "upper" receiver serialized.(Look at op's picture) the serial number plate is hidden under the new lower in the OP's pic. some folks choose to do a complete cut-out for the plate, and some choose to just relieve the inside of the new reciever just enough to side in and hide the plate. if you look at the pic of the right side of the reciever, you can see they slight relief he cut. it's above and forward of the safety lever. EDIT: i had a brain fart! i read upper but was talking about the lower. |
it is alot of work to dremmel out for the serial block.if you slip up you have ruined it.here is the navy lower i replaced.partial ears broke off,do not know why.stock broke also.i will send this to anyone if they want it for study or possible repair for thier rifle for $7 shipped paypal.pm or email me.

| the serial number is visable on the bolt and the upper receiver.by covering up the serial number on the receiver you are doing nothing wrong.you can still see the number clearly on the bolt.you are hiding the frame serial number,not removing it or defacing it.nobody wants a $7 receiver? |

The upper receiver should be what's considered the "Firearm" Unless maybe it's different, because it's a 2 piece design(The upper can be split in 2 pieces I believe) |
the gsg breaks down into 2 halfs like a ar15.the upper half like a ar15 has no serial number.the bolt which is visable has a serial number on it.the lower receiver has the serial number engraved on a serial number block.that lower receiver fits into the grip housing.here is a pic of the lower receiver sitting in the lower grip housing.you do not see a serial number because it is blocked out.hope this makes you understand.i misspoke.i ment lower receiver.

My receiver is serialized. My guess is that they where told that the receiver need's to be serialized, on the newer imports.

i did not know that the new imports have the serial number on the lower receiver.now i know why you asked the questions you asked.my gun was a early import.is your bolt marked with a serial number?look at the link i am posting.look at the top 2 gsg5 pics.you will see a little exposed block to the right of the safety.that is my serial number that i hid with the sef lower conversion.these are old pics of the first models like mine.
