I am in the process of getting my first guns. I will have 2 rifles (RobArms XCR and MSAR E4), and want to be safe about storing them.

I live alone, have no small children in the house.

I have house guests with small children (nieces) and bi-weekly poker games.

I live in a low crime area (NH) and have the least desirable house in my cul-de-sac neighborhood from the perspective of perceived wealth for smash and grabbers (smallest house, least ornate landscalping, etc.).

I would like to keep the guns safe from accidental harm from a misbehaving visitor (though I can't imagine anyone I ever have over would go through my private things), and I would like to have protection for the weapons regarding rust, accidental damage, etc.

My longer term goal is to get a 2 hour fire rated gun vault, but this may be as far as 6-9 months away.  I was going to store them in lockers at the local gun club, which I am joining for the short term, but the joining process will take at least 7 weeks. (Seems crazy to me, but applications must be in by the first Friday of the month for consideration on the 3rd Friday). I will be getting the guns on the 11th.

So, for starters, how do I store the weapons safely, and how do I best store them to keep the rust off?

I was thinking storing them in their cases, partially disassembled (barrels removed on both) with desiccants in the cases and cable locks through the receivers. I would then discretely hid the gun cases in my house where people are not likely to be looking or going. Does this sound reasonable enough for short term storage? Any better ideas?

Also, this is what I am thinking for a safe:

Does anyone know if this sale price is really a sale price, or is it their normal markdown from a suggested retail price?

Thanks, I've learned a lot here combing through the forum so far, and appreciate any help,

Unless you take them out on your saltwater fishing boat, or store them in your bathroom, don't worry about rust.

You could put trigger locks on them or lock them in the cases. You could also lock the cable lock to something big and heavy.

I would lock them in the case and keep them in the closet.

If you are really concerned about moisture, get 1 or 2 of those portable safe dehumidifiers that recharge by plugging them in the wall and absorb moisture when they aren't plugged in and put one in the case.

But unless you put them in the case wet, I would not worry about it.
